First 2 controls went well but I went right for #3 as I misread a contour line for a track which would have bought me to a better attack point. It turns out the wind blown that they said would be on the map certainly wasn't and it took3 times coming off the track to the south to actually hit it. Nearly 5 minutes lost.
I made a howler of #4 as I tried to go in on an unmarked track and missed it. I then thought I was too far North so came back out and missed the bend in the path and nearly got to the road. I then decided to find the fence to bring me into the control.
After this it went ok and I got quite a few fastest splits until my new head torch ran out of battery at #20. My back up is only strong enough to read the map so there was no way I could finish. Annoying as I was 2.30 minutes up on Geoff here...
I wasn't really bothered at the time as my run certainly did not deserve a trophy but I'm a little annoyed now. I think I must have had the light on the highest setting but thought it was on #2 instead. I have since tested #2 and it should have lasted 2 hours. I will now test #1.
My Achilles just about got through the mornings run but was much more painful tonight so no score event on Sunday.
