Cross Training (Downhill skiing) 2:30:00 [2]

All day, but only counting half the time. Windy and heavy cloud cover blanketing slopes; visibility not great. Mostly cruising.

Saturday Feb 1, 2003 #

Skate Ski (Grafton Ponds) 3:00:00 [2] 15.0 km (12:00 / km) +250m 11:05 / km

32F +/- 1F => no wax was particularly good. Easy workout, except hard on arms.

Cross Training (Snowshoeing) 1:00:00 [4] 2.0 mi (30:00 / mi) +200m 22:53 / mi

Quick tour up along top of ridge. Some wet snow to break trail; other places Dan had been last week.

Wind packed snow and track set in fields. Snow okay but track needs some work.

Wednesday Jan 29, 2003 #

Mountain Climbing (Giant Mtn, Adk NY) 8:00:00 [3] 6.0 mi (1:20:00 / mi) +700m 58:43 / mi

Bushwacked 2 miles up gully choked with saplings and 4' snow to base of Bottle Slide. Used Dan as a snowplow to break trail. Found face covered with 3' layer of unconsolidated snow. Not good conditions to proceed, so had to bail out and try again another day. That's what happens when there's no Jan thaw or rain to glue the snow together.
