PTOC red course at SMP. Chilly and a bit windy. It was perfect for running, but I got cold when I finished. I was going to help pick up controls, but wanted to wait until Mary was in before I committed. Then I realized I was starting to get cold and should change to dry clothes. But then my hands got cold. Then Mary arrived and decided she was going out to pick up controls. I figured I'd just wait at the finish area while she drove to the area she had to pick up. But I couldn't get my hands to warm up (even with a hot chocolate and standing by the fire). I finally realized that I needed to move, so I walked/jogged out to pick up a couple of near controls in open areas. When I got back, Mary was back and I could get in the car and out of the wind. That was good.

Oh yeah, some orienteering, too. The course was fun. I was sharp in places but not through the entire course. I managed a reasonable run without much time lost to errors. But, I also was lazy, skipping some rough spots to take slower routes that were more pleasant. Still, I did some good orienteering and that was fun.

Short warm up.

cycling 45:00 [1]

Work commute. Cold and windy.

The trip home featured some strange driving but light traffic. I'd expect more traffic because of the basketball game but maybe people have gone home for Thanskgiving a bit early?

running 20:00 [2]

Short run. The temp was in the 20s and it felt so nice to run with cool temperatures. Running feels so much better when it is this temperature compared to anything above about 55.

Note

This is an interesting "parallel error":

Listening to the audio of the conversation (there's a link in the article) as they figure out what happened and where they are reminds me of the sort of internal dialogue you have as you make an orienteering error.

Commute.

To work was warm and pleasant - maybe low 50s.

The trip home (after the Geography Awareness Week event on the KU Campus) was a bit rough - 33 and rain. My hands got cold since I wasn't wearing my lobster mitts. Also, I was a bit wet.

The GAW event drew a good crowd despite the mix of rain and mist and falling temps (about 41 at the start and about 33 at the end). We had 30 starters. Some were groups. We figure we had about 70+ people. All but 7 were students. The students were mostly interested in getting extra credit in their geography classes.

Also, Austin - the grad student who helped us - was a big help.

Just the work commute and nothing more. Actually, I also biked to/from KU to attend a bit of GIS day.

Kartlek at Woodridge. I found some controls, I explored some new areas, I ran in the terrain, I ran up some hills (and walked up some). It was fun. I felt slow and didn't have much ability to push when it was a little rough.

It was very windy.
