Training Log Archive: revy

Annual trip to jumbo pass cabin. Lucy and Bob came along (since Bob also has a sled transport was taken care of) as did Courtney, atsuko and Liza. Smooth ride in - road was only plowed to 15km mark this year. Coverage lower down was the best I have seen - bodes well for our next trip in a couple weeks.

Ski in always seems hard due to pack weight but seemed to go pretty fast this year - couple hours to the cabin. Had a broken trail which helped. Bluebird morning which surprised us as a system was forecast to move in. Nice for the first-timers to get some good views. Did a couple runs in the east bowl - great snow and very little wind effect on the upper ridge. Upper 20-30cm of snowpack was low density unconsolidated snow so blower quality:)

A warm front with 15cm of dense snow passed through and conditions were way better than two days ago. Parts of main loop were in mid winter condition. Mickey's is still a little uneven but way less debris sticking out. A couple km at the end with the dog on roadway ramble which was only skier set so a bit wobbly.

Gorge with Atsuko, Brook and Sean. Lots more snow since last week. Looking well filled in now. Went up to the summit from 15 and a couple runs in the upper bowl and then a run down the nose of the ridge to the car. Visibility was a bit soupy up high and mild wind effect but as we got lower the snow was great. First ski this year with really good snow. Cool thing about the Gorge is that despite being a small area after the fourth time there this year still haven't repeated a descent.

First ski of the season at MacPherson. Early season conditions - rock ski conditions really. Only Mickey Olson and Main Loop were groomed. Did Mickey's twice and Main once and then a little extra with the dog. A bit of snow and a poor track made it a little slow. Took it easy. Higher trails were better. Nice to be out though.
