Run / Hike 2:06:00 [3] 8.1 mi (15:33 / mi) +1497ft 13:14 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:120.4lbs shoes: Hoka Challenger (2019)

Trail run at Shanahan Ridge / Big Bluestem / Mesa / Homestead / Shadow Canyon in Boulder.

I got my usual "alpine start" and got on the trail at 12:30 pm. (I had gotten up at 8am but felt queasy all morning -- too much spicy food (and beer) at my friend's house warming party last night...?) There were dark clouds to the northwest when I started, but I only felt a few intermittent rain sprinkles while I was out.

My plan was to do a big loop, but I took two wrong turns that made this more of a lollipop loop with an extra side-spur. No biggie -- it's a beautiful area, and I think I actually got in more time, mileage, and climb this way. I mostly ran but walked some of the steeper, rockier sections.

Thunder & heavy rain started right as I got back to my car.

Run / Hike 31:36 [3] 3.11 mi (10:10 / mi) +145ft 9:44 / mi
slept:7.0 weight:118.4lbs

Group run from the Roost store, with Hoka shoes to try. Up McCaslin to Davidson Mesa, one lap around Harper Lake, and then back down to the store.

Normally when I try demo shoes, I think "yeah...they feel like running shoes".

But these Hokas (which I've never run in before) were distinctly more squishy and plush -- no foot pain whatsoever. (After last weekend's long run, my feet were still feeling sore as of last night.) And Hokas seem to have scaled down in size and weight in recent years -- they don't look as much like clown shoes anymore.

After the run -- breakfast burritos and mimosas at the store. :-)

slept:7.0 shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2019)

Another cloudy, blustery evening -- very pleasant. I did the workout I missed last night:

- Ran one mile to warm up.

- "Ins & outs" x 6 at the arboretum.

- Ran a half mile to cool down.

Paces for the quarter-mile fast segments (how do people keep up this pace for a full mile...or more?!):

Run / Hike 15:00 [3] 0.75 mi (20:00 / mi)
slept:7.0

I missed my running group workout this evening -- I had a work meeting in Greenwood Village that didn't finish until 5:15 pm, and then it took 75 minutes to get home in rush hour traffic. Ugh.

Walked to & from the rec center. A really pleasant night -- cloudy with blustery wind rustling the tree leaves.

Strength / Stretching 1:00:00 [3]

Restorative yoga class at the rec center.

I had wolfed down my dinner about 30 minutes prior (after only having a protein shake for "lunch" in the car on my way to Greenwood Village), so I was afraid my stomach might act up during this class. Luckily...it did not.

Weekly Runners Roost group run -- this time starting offsite at the Mayhoffer-Singletree trail. Out & back.

Run / Hike 29:21 [3] 3.03 mi (9:41 / mi) +59ft 9:31 / mi
slept:8.0 weight:118.4lbs shoes: Brooks Adrenaline (2019)

- Ran a half mile to warm up.

- Two-mile repeats. Others were doing 2-3 sets, but I had "permission" to just do one set at an easy pace -- 9:17 (slight uphill), 8:44 (slight downhill).

- Ran a half mile to cool down.

Administration 2:00:00 [0]

- Removed all email addresses from RMOC's 2012, 2014, 2016 & 2018 national meet web sites (to hopefully cut down on spam messages...).

- Made some adjustments to database table layout and PHP code for RMOC results.

- Added new map & course details to the meet details page for Camp Elim. Updated the registration options. Moved people from old to new course options and sent email confirmation.

- Sent out RMOC email with meet reminders & member news.

Note

I had planned to walk over to the rec center for yoga...but my stomach had other plans.

I've actually been feeling mildly sick since last night. Something I ate? A viral invader? "Toxins" released from my intense massage therapy session yesterday afternoon (is that really a thing?)?
