Orienteering race 45:33 [4] 6.0 km (7:36 / km) +240m 6:20 / km

Aus Relays. 3rd leg, with Rachel 1st and Laurina 2nd. Still felt pretty flat after yesterday, and was kinda hoping for a bit of a race in the end to get a bit more motivated, but went out in a pretty safe 3rd, decent gap to kathryn and shannon who went out in the lead, but safe margin to vanessa. had a clean run, and tried to run hard, but really didn't have the legs to run properly hard. ok area, but didn't think it was that much better than the stuff in the barossa that it was worth the extra drive. would have been quite happy to have the relay in the same area as aus long. would have loved another run around there!

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

warm up. no warm down.

Orienteering race 1:20:58 [5] 10.6 km (7:38 / km) +360m 6:32 / km

Aus Long distance champs - good run, but not great. had a bit of a scare on 2, which should have been an easy control, but managed to overshoot up the hill. got my head into gear a bit more after that, and actually started reading the map properly instead of hoping that running in the right direction would get me there... which backfired a little on the run into 5 when I rolled my ankle quite badly. had to stop for a little while, and had a bit of a moment, but steadily ran it out. never really comfortable running in the rough stuff after that.
ran a few controls with Lauren, including the danger leg down to 6 - very happy to get that cleanly, but really struggled on the long running section in the middle of the course. hestitated and lost about 30secs on 16, but then got the last technical loop ok. again lost a fair bit of time on the slog back home.
pretty happy with how I finished up. there was nothing I could have done about the 6mins to kathryn, but there was a big bunch just behind and a few more little mistakes would have made a big difference.

Note

spent 5 hrs in adelaide airport waiting for a flight home. nearly didn't get that either in the end as they only just got us out before curfew. got home at 2.30am... so not particularly functional today. feel like I have a hangover, despite no alcohol. fail.

Gym 40:00 [3]

light gym session and lots of stretching.

Orienteering race (SA long champs) 1:10:12 [5] 9.0 km (7:48 / km) +300m 6:41 / km

SA long at Mack's Creek. Good classic race course today, with lots of route choice - pick your combo of hills, green and long track running. went straight on 1, little tracks to the left on 4, left on 5 and the track to the right on 7. ran the first half on my own, but then caught Mace on 5-6, struggled to keep up on the track to 7, but then was ok once we were back in the green. also caught Jas at 7, and had a good little train going. picked up Jenny as well, but then they all got past when I decided that the control I could see in the gully was too low, and headed back up the hill. eventually decided that I was clearly an idiot and went and punched it, and spent the rest of the course playing catch up again... or not quite - still 50m or so behind Jas and Mace at the finish.
Good run except for the miss on 10, and was in the hurt box the whole way. pleasantly surprised to take another win.

Running warm up/down 30:00 [3]

bit longer warm up to help get yesterday's run out of my legs, and a decent warm down to help stop my legs cramping so much on the plane.

Orienteering race (Aus middle champs) 35:09 [5] 4.9 km (7:10 / km) +180m 6:04 / km

Middle champs at 'Lady Alice Goldfield', a really interesting area with lots of mining ruins, including old stone houses. reasonably detailed area, but good visibility meant that it wasn't super technical. the course was set to make the most of it, with 23 controls and heaps of direction changes. had a steady run, and gradually increased the intensity. one small miss when I was a bit high on 11. slightly off line on another couple, but would have only been a few seconds in it. had blair for pacing for a big chunk of the course as the mens course had quite similar controls. struggled a fair bit on the hills.
pretty pleased with my run, especially to avoid doing anything silly, which would have been so easy on that course. my first thought when they announce that I had the fastest time was that I must have missed a control, but all good. pleased to take the win - 2 1/2 years since the last one.
