Pre-Junior Nationals NRE - Blue

It was so cool to bring a big contingent of GrizO folks over for this event! There were over 20 of us in total, including ten competing in Junior Nationals, across each of the age levels. This took a lot of organizing and planning and logisticing and handholding, but it was very much worth it. I spent the entire weekend being really tired and somewhat stressed, which was reflected in my racing but again, so worth it!

I ran Blue for the middle distance day and thought I could do reasonably well. Unfortunately, going to #3 I did not see the indistinct trail that could be used to get across the marsh, and so I went straight in until I was in to my waist and stuck. I fought my way back to shore and (this was not the brightest move) tried a second time in a different place, all in full view of the control I was trying to get to!

After a second failed attempt I backtracked to the crossing point and went to 3, losing about 3 minutes on this idiocy. The cold water also tightened up my legs, and so I felt like I had no power the rest of the race.

Things went ok after this. I lost a bit more time on 8 and 16, both due to not going straight, but it was really the 3-minute loss on 3 that killed my result. Very impressive race by AJ today, and also Will, who did great despite having major course setting responsibilities for the weekend.

It was a fun course and fun terrain. A lot of good runs from GrizO folks, including wins in F14 and F18 by Kelli and Miranda, respectively.

Trail intervals at Maclay Flats, 4x2', 4x1', 4x0.5', 1 minute rest throughout. For the 2-minute ones it felt like I was working too hard for the speed I was running, but this seemed to get better for the short intervals, so an ok session, I guess.
