WOC Tour Day 6
An over-all very bad race on the map bordering to the WOC Relays. We ran in the morning before the relays started.
My problems started right away when I couldn´t get into my head that the best route to #1 went back through the starting grid!!!
It took me a long time to get going from the starting point after sorting out my bearings and I made a terrible route choice - losing several minutes (3-4 maybe?). Then the big mistake came on #2 where Tommy S (started ? min´s behind) and I got together and screwed up badly. When I eventuelly found the control it was placed in a relatively open reentrant no more than 20 m from the original spot where my problems began :(
After the first two controls I had lost most of my motivation, but kept going anyway and finished with a decent second half of the race, but still with a few more - this time minor - mistakes.

WOC Middle Final, Gjern Bakker
Working with the WOC Online team...

Trail running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.6 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon (2006:1)

Very short warm-up to the start right after finishing the live coverage and watching the price-giving ceremony of the Middle Final.

Orienteering race (14th place/99, 1st 27 min) 33:22 [4] **** 3.2 km (10:26 / km)
ahr:133 max:144 shoes: VJ Falcon (2006:1)

WOC Tour Day 5
A very good race on the same map as the WOC Middle Final. I only had a few very small time losses: - Veered off a little bit too much to the right going to #9 costing 15-20 sec's at the most and then 30 seconds lost as I passed #12 to the left before I turned back.

WOC Tour Day 4
In Löndal Skov, the same area as the WOC Long Distance Finals yesterday. The weather was overcast with some light showers when I started at 9:01 (as #2 on my course).
Passed the first runner just before the second control - saw him for a few controls more, but was probably leading the field all the way to the second last control when a Finn passed me (he had started 8 min´s behind).
The run was a success orienteering-wise with no real mistakes. I may have lost maybe 15-20 seconds on poor execution on two occasions, but knew where I was all the time. I think I picked good route choices - even though there were a lot of alternatives that were probably equal in time.
My running pace could definitely be better since I´ve had a hard time to even get under 10 min/km the whole week here in Denmark. The terrain should really make for some faster running than what is common back home, but I guess that I presently am better in difficult orienteering terrain than on 'runner´s courses'.

WOC Sprint Qualification & Final
Working with the WOC Online team...
Spent the whole day in Mindeparken in Århus - our schedule was a bit too tight to get out to the WOC Tour event in time so we went downtown for lunch instead between the races.

WOC Tour, Day 1 at Linå Vesterskov
Same map as the Long Qualification, interesting and demanding terrain. Very hilly and also a lot of vegetation on the ground to take into account.
Weather was very warm and sunny and I felt rather tired after working all day in the sun. Running felt terribly slow and sluggish while my orienteering went mostly OK with only a few minor errors on execution of route choices. At #9 I couldn´t locate to well on the rides and trails along the leg and spent some time reassuring that I was really in the right place. To #10 I spent a long time before deciding on my route choice and also went very slowly.
The only two control misses came close to the end. #11 was a little clearing in a dense area that I passed and messed around the first time losing maybe two minutes. The second last control #13 was a reentrant where the control marker was hidden in some very dense bushes, where I spent some minutes extra (3½) before finding it.

WOC Middle Qualification at Hjortsballe Krat.

Road running warm up/down 12:00 [3] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon (2006:1)

Warm-up to the start of the Open Course. The main part on a paved road in the scorching sun. Very tired after working all day to begin with.

Orienteering race 52:51 [4] *** 5.0 km (10:34 / km)
ahr:140 max:150 spiked:11/14c shoes: VJ Falcon (2006:1)

Open spectator race on controls from the WOC Middle Qualification. We were allowed to run directly after the official racing was done with, but IOF rules state that the actual courses may not be re-run. Afterwards I figured out that on my course (Men Open B) the first 5 controls where from the Men´s C-heat and the rest of the course from the B-heat... Best time on this course was 30 min's - a possible qualifying time!
Orienteering was quite OK with no major mistakes (controls #3, 7 and 9, maybe 30 sec's each). Route choices is another story though - I made several stupid/lazy/bad choices to save my poor legs, but I suppose they were not even then the best at all times. Physically I was very tired and even considered DNF when I passed close by the finish area for the first time - but I kept going and survived in the 30C+ temperatures.
