biking (road bike) 1:27:00 [2] 18.5 mi (12.8 mph)
slept:8.0 shoes: Shimano (bike)

Rode to downtown to see the beer cups Dee saw after last night (students are back), then rode by Decade, on Burroughs Trail to 31st St (reopening next Wed), then around Haskell campus to see I could get a 5K course completely on the campus and the bike trail (now all paved), then to Learnard, 19th and back to 23rd before heading back on Barker and home. Garmin Edge wasn't readable (screen view very faint; I restarted by pushing both the down arrow button along with the On button). Wore my Forerunner (after a mile, I switched to bike mode, for the first time). Just an easy ride to recover from being out in the sun for 3 hours yesterday. Yesterday wasn't hard, just tiring.

strength/stretching 11:00 [1]

DD #21 - stretching before walk.

running/walking (walking) 15:00 [1] 1.0 mi (15:00 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Brooks Ghost3-2010

Lied, BBillings, Westbrooke, Mtn Lion Hill, Pioneer Cemetery, and back to Lied parking lot. Then picked up Dog Days Sat. shirt (need to attend 4 Sats to ern shirt). Walked in biking shorts.

biking (road bike) 1:30:00 [1] 8.0 mi (5.3 mph)
shoes: Shimano (bike)

Went to Steve Riley's old calibration course on Clinton Parkway by Raintree. Wrong. His new course is between Atchison and Lawrence aves. Rode 1000' four times. Then drove to Woodlawn School and rode the 5K course twice. First time doing course backwards and marking the potential 3, 2, 1 and start points. Riley guessed right - start/finish could be placed by the east driveway into the school grounds. After calculating the results the first time, then rode the course in the direction of the race, without stopping to check mile splits.

strength/stretching 28:00 [3]

at Sports Pavilion - stretching, lats (12x100, 10x120, 5x140). Forgot to bring the elastic bands for glute drills. Tempo calves, buzzsaw plankts.

biking (road bike) 2:34:45 [3] 42.75 mi (16.6 mph)
slept:7.0 shoes: Shimano (bike)

Parked car at Unitarian church (by Rick Hermesch's house) and rode the loop Dee and Grover did Monday. About 65 degrees when I started.
From the bridge over Iowa looking south, a great view of the valley with the low parts fogged over. I did not stop to take a photo.
Tried to push the pace but under control so I would finish with undue strain. Success. Stopped 2 miles outside Centropolis to each a banana. The glutes really ached as I started up again and I wondered if I was going to suffer at the end. But keeping revs high, occasionally emphasizing pulling on the up stroke, helped. Didn't feel like riding any further.

83.8 rpm (the reading on the Forerunner; somehow the rpms on Garmin Connect are lower)

strength/stretching 11:00 [1]

Jones stretches at home _ glutes, tempo calves
6 PM

strength/stretching 25:00 [3]

DD #20 - 1st evening Dog Days workout - not oppressively hot like the previous days. Good stretching and calis - K. Baldwin led the workout.

running/walking (walking) 9:00 [1] 0.5 mi (18:00 / mi)
shoes: Adizero Tempo 5

Easy walk with Sam Perkins to ask how his rotator cuff operation went (5 weeks rest before starting any rehab).

strength/stretching (Dog Days) 25:00 [1]
slept:7.0

DD #19 - temp calves and leg swings before starting Dog Days workout led by Kenny Baldwin. Kenny has us hold our static stretches longer He again asked us to bend down to toe our toes with the leg crossed in front of the other. Rob Jones says this is a bad drill (constricting muscles while trying to stretch). So, I did hamstring stretches instead. Avoided anything to might strain the achilles.
7 AM

biking (road bike) 59:23 [3] 14.7 mi (14.9 mph)
shoes: Shimano (bike)

Back home from Dog Days, immediately changed to biking outfit and rode to N1500/bike path and N to end of paved path. Back home via Rock Chalk Park. Mild wind from S. Left Achilles felt OK, but tight Achilles was sore, but not a problem to ride. Route

81.5 rpm.

Note
(rest day)

Was planning to ride about 40 miles with Grover and Dee, but left achilles tendon was aching. Took Aleve at 3 am. Tried riding around the block to see if I should ride or not. Opted to stay home and ice the left lower calf area about five times throughout the day. The weather looked good for a ride that day.

Mowed the lawn instead.
