I love meeting people I only know from AP. ;-)

I'm guessing 9 was a wash...possibly faster on the road if executed perfectly. I was 2.59 on the road, :51 behind you if I read the comparisons right and you were fastest. I think I was about 20 seconds behind you on clean legs of about 2:30 mins. On 9, I lost some time trying to account for some critical junctions being hidden under the control descriptions. If they were visible, I think it would have been close - more a matter of what terrain you navigate fastest in.

Woods bashing out here is always dangerous. I miss the northeast - but I am refreshing my sprint skills and my ability to read and plan ahead effectively. My flow is much better out here. I hope I can transfer that back to the complex terrain of the NE if we ever get back there.

I went low and around to 21 on the trails - my only fastest split (2:17) of the 4 of us who were in by the time I finished. And that included stopping to curse bashing up one of my toes pretty good.

Verdict on the 5-FIngers: Fine going uphill, like to 1. Tough on steep downhills (like to 13) and I wouldn't wear them on a really rainy day out here. Not enough protection to risk racing in, I bashed that toe up pretty darned good - running on it longer might have been a problem. But definitely worthwhile for a training run if you're not concerned about results. It may have been a slightly slower run that with normal shoes, I'll know once splits are up tonight.

Yeah, was great to meet you too!

Ah, I didn't consider the missing bit of map on the road route choice to 9, definitely true, and for sure must make the road route a bit trickier! Nice on 21, definitely looks a better route considering the climb and not totally directness of even the other trail route, I should have planned that better while on the trail from 19, but I was wrapped up in spotting 20 in the green without a distinct attackpoint....

Can totally see how orienteering out here is great sprint training and teaches good planning ahead- I was attempting that today, but too much planning ahead was what got me off route to 7- so better balance required. And it was also great focus-training to have so many people around- I totally let that get to me out there a few times, which isn't good!

Cool to hear 5-Fingers mostly did well, but hope the toe heals up quick or isn't that bad. I'm tempted to get a pair, haven't even tried, but if they change up the way you run, maybe a good way to stay un-injured with running, just mixing up the body mechanics to avoid over-use...

I did some barefoot running in the grass (in October when it was warmer) and then later on pavement before buying my first pair. My usual issues with plantar fasciitis, shin splints, and lower back pain don't seem to occur when I run in them.

Of course, Fort Lewis went and made them unauthorized with our physical training uniform, so I only get about one run a week in with them. But I do love it. If you do get a pair, I recommend starting really, really slow - just training runs, probably no more than 30 mins to begin with. I felt like that was nothing for my first run, until I got out of bed the next morning and realized how tight and sore my gastrocs were. Ouch!

Ok, will remember to take it slow to start with if/when I get a pair! Am intrigued by them for sure!
