Hey, Josh - good to hear from you again. You might try checking out the regional O club (usorienteering.org has a list and websites) and see if anyone has maps of the local area you could borrow or if they have a running group. I linked up with the BAOC folks while I was at Stanford and it was a godsend - some of the best running I've done in awhile...which I will promptly lose while I chase firsties around CLDT, but oh well. It was great while it lasted.

What's in Alexandria?

Nice to hear from you too Ma'am. The CLDT logs look very PT-intensive. Do all of the cadets get similar distances in patrolling, or is that just a function of what you're doing? Are you a TAC?
I might just check out what other O-clubs around here have; I know Quantico isn't too far away. It doesn't look like I'll run out of new running options soon, though. I like the little stairstep pattern I've been able to maintain the past few days in terms of PT time, but I'm more concerned about just getting some workout in every day so I have a good base for the academic year.
I'm in alexandria for a GIS AIAD to the Topographic Engineering Center, arranged by LTC Hendricks. I haven't had a lot of work yet, but my primary contact is returning from vacation tomorrow, so I imagine he'll have a better idea how to make my time there the most worthwhile. I'm planning on seeing DC/Mt. Vernon while I'm down here, and one of my friends lives nearby. I come back the day before the rest of the Corps returns.
Any naturals identified through the Beast-O?

I'm part of the trainer team - I observe the cadets serving in PL and PSG positions. The patrolling part was from the Combat Outpost...lots of walking. All you see in my log was with my platoon - two squads the first day, the whole platoon for that VERY long second day (on 1.5-3 hours of sleep). We were all pretty smoked.

Yes, some definite possibilities in Beast-O. At least 3 who've never done it before and picked it up fast, to include one female cadet that I'm going to set Michelle and Madeleine and Heidi on (she came only one day, but got all the controls in 40 mins, not a bad time and better than a bunch of the guys). We also have John Klaben (Sarah's brother) and an experienced runner out of the prep school. We hope to see them all for tryouts - I think there are a lot of great prospects.

I'd check and see what the Quantico folks are up to. Incidentally, Peggy Dickison in in Alexandria and mentioned in her log running into some of the other Oers while out running. You should look her up on AP - her username is peggyd. I bet she has some good thoughts on places to run and can tell you what their summer O looks like (they had a course this past weekend).

Cool, have a good time. We'll probably see you Reorgy Week when the team meets!
