Glad you made it up and had a good ride! Did you buy your cheese at the Cafe?
The Albion Hills map is still used occasionally by UKR and friends but it could use an update. Mick and I put on several MTBO events there and it was hard to keep up with all the trail changes but it’s a great place for that. I’d thought about hosting a championship there some day.
Re people forgetting the old days: In working on the Orienteering Ontario archives, I discovered statements where OOA’s annual income was more than 50x higher than it is now. Considerably more than that if we account for 30 years of inflation. Between that and a paid Exec Director, it’s not surprising that OOA organized events back in the day but no longer does.
For a few winters in the past 12 years, OOA put on an O Cup fundraiser race. We had to borrow everything from clubs - map, SI gear, online registration system, etc. For a higher level event, we’d have to borrow a certified official too. Clubs are the experts at event organization.
