Got there as they were starting the chat but it’s a place where you feel like a bit of a dick if you warm-up so was a v. slow start. Let the leader get a big gap but reeled him in.

Fell Race race (Pendle Fell Race) 37:25 [3] 6.89 km (5:26 / km) +431m 4:08 / km

Had vague memories of 16 years ago (half-my-life) of a flat track at the finish and a brutal climb in the middle. No climbing legs until about half-way up the face, then mega mega windy on the top. No times on the results from 2008 so can’t tell if my former or current self won.

Orienteering race (JK Relay Stanton Moor) 25:00 [3]

JK Short with Stephen and Alistair.

Dropped out the start by a load of juniors, particularly Adam Methven. Came together with Oliver Prince (NOR) on the way to three and we could see Adam ahead again in the nice white patch. Oliver was beasting it through the heather to four but we couldn't see Adam ahead. I maybe had easier controls along the slope to get back onto the flat. Still no sign-of Adam, wish I'd taken the path route to 8 but ploughed on through the heather and could see Oliver a bit behind to my left. Was sloppy to 11 but was called out as being in the lead into the finish which was surprise and also face-saving. Turns out Adam went wrong at 4.

Legs feeling a little tired.

Note

Knee-pain, quad pain, hip-pain and calf-pain that have been niggling the last few weeks seem to have calmed-down a bit. Or maybe just easier to ignore when racing on soft ground. Quad probably the most niggly of them all.

Anyway there's been a lot of travel in the last month so will get back on the yoga/massage more to try and keep things at bay.

Getting some ability back to race up hills is the next focus, don't think it's too deep down but needs some work. Doctor’s Gate was a month ago already which feels like the last time I did any proper training.
