RB Training Weekend?

Wednesday Apr 9, 2008 #

Running 5:00 [5]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

2x400m and 4x200m repeats, at 73 and 35 seconds, respectively.

Running 35:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

Warmups, cooldowns, strides. My pace felt funny today - it was hard to hit the speed I wanted to do.

Strength 10:00 [3]

Some quick leg lifts after the workout.

Climbing 45:00 [3]

Went to the climbing gym with Allison and Nicole. It was a really fun trip.

Orienteering race 54:00 [4] 6.7 km (8:04 / km) +30m 7:53 / km
shoes: Kainuu Integrators

Race at GCO's Sacramento Bar. My first GCO meet. Quite complex map, lots of contour detail and river gravel. Hard to read, it was generally easiest to use the trail network.

My execution was spotty. Topography was hard to read on the map, so I was too lazy about visualizing features. Distance estimation and looking ahead were other things that came and went. At least 5 minutes of error, probably more. Includes 2 minutes on first control.

Note

Finally had the Red Bluff training weekend that I've been planning for over a year. It went great. Everybody seemed to love the terrain and the training courses. They even liked the map (which turned out much nicer than I had hoped)

Had around 20 people turn out, a nice number. Most were from the Bay Area, but 5 were from Redding. I'm excited about the possibility of a small orienteering club starting in the Redding area.

Here's some compressed versions of the maps. Sorry Andy, I borrowed some of your formatting elements ;-)
