Day 2: Boggs Mountain.
The change from yesterday was like night and day. When I finished saturday's course, I couldn't think of a single leg that I felt I had executed acceptably. When I finished this one, there were only a couple controls I could complain about. It was a clean race - and though I wasn't running at full exertion, I was moving quickly and smoothly through the forest. I was a great finish to a great weekend.
What made the difference?
Before the race, I took the time to study saturdays map and learn how to interpret vegetation. This paid off big time, as I was able to confidently navigate using vegatation boundaries throughout the day.
Also, I made concious effort to attend to distance. I am finding that this is one of the biggest deciders between clean and sloppy runs for me.
