Run (mill) 1:00:00 [3] 6.12 mi (9:48 / mi)
shoes: Mizuno WR 610

Morning jog while watching the AZ Cardinals trounce the Panthers. Love to see the wild card teams unseat the favs.
Legs felt good but certainly uses different running muscles than Friday's run.

Ski (snowboard) 1:00:00 [3]

Full day snowboarding with the kids at Wilmot. Although I'd never been there, I knew it wasn't much of a hill. So I was very surprised to see long lift lines... grrrrrr. Oh well, the kids had fun and I am slightly better for the trip.

Run long 2:00:20 [2] 10.8 mi (11:09 / mi)
shoes: Icebug MR2 811

6" of fresh powder wasn't in the plan but it made it a unique & fun run. Had planned to run around the full length of a local public golf course cart path because it is one of the few places without any ice. After a 40 minute slog to get there, the whole course was just one rippling white blanket and impossible to stay on the cart path. Not that it mattered since the footing was the same deep, fluffy powder everywhere. So I decided to plow right down the middle of the fairway over the machine-made knolls. Of course the sand traps were treacherous because of the precipitous drop into some of them. I was swallowed by two of them but easily chipped-out.
With no other foot prints (or ski tracks) anywhere, I began to wonder whether I was allowed on there. I could not imagine that the people living in these monstrous houses packed together along every fairway would tolerate a restriction preventing them from walking on the path 15 feet from their back yard but maybe they're just a bunch of sheeple who deal with that. Regardless, I found a new reason for golf courses to exist (winter running) and enjoyed myself thoroughly.
I know I wasn't moving too fast but it was a tough two hours. Nice to have another long run in the bank.

Swim 55:00 [3] 3.0 km (18:20 / km)

Ok, now the split clock is officially broken. I took my own batteries in there and they made the gears spin but the hands are seized-up. This could take them months to replace so I need another solution that doesn't involve my wearing a watch. Maybe a cheap timer in a plastic bag.
So I decided to just swim 3k today. The broken clock allowed me to worry less about my splits & concentrate on stroke. Stayed pretty smooth with consistently engaged kick (sometimes it slacks off). Felt much better today; I think I was short on sleep but have caught-up these last few days.

Bike (spin) 1:05:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (25:00 @3) + (25:00 @4) + (5:00 @5)

Other half of my regular "swim & spin" workout. Again took it easy but could not deny the energy from the violin solo in Baba O'Riley. Felt much better than Tuesday, again attributing it to more sleep.

Run (snow) 38:00 [3] 3.6 mi (10:33 / mi)
shoes: Icebug MR2 811

Abbreviated Carmel lap. Ran from DD to avoid the roads. Felt decent but slow on the ice. Yesterday's dusting of snow did not improve traction.

Swim 1:00:00 [3] 2.8 km (21:26 / km)

Drills & Technique workout:
400s, 300p, 6 * 50 e/h
5 * 100 fwf, 200s, 300p
3 * 100 sa, 200s, 300p
Started lethargic but got a little boost by the end. Decent workout, should do more of these but it's easier to just swim.
Split clock dead again; will start bringing my own batteries.

Bike (spin) 1:05:00 intensity: (10:00 @2) + (30:00 @3) + (20:00 @4) + (5:00 @5)

As I've been lacking energy lately, I decided to keep the intensity lower than the workout called for. I am getting better at "dogging" it through these without making it too obvious. The ride still does me some good but keeps the intensity with my plan.
So I felt ok, better than Saturday.

Run tempo (hills) 1:01:04 intensity: (20:00 @3) + (41:04 @4) 6.12 mi (9:59 / mi) +197m 9:04 / mi

Adler roller coaster tempo run.
Ground conditions were poor with all of the ice and the course even traversed a newly created pond from the rapid thaw & refreeze. It creaked when I shuffled across it but luckily held.
I couldn't really relax during the run with all of the attention my footing required. I usually try to negative splt each lap but that wasn't happening today. It been a while since I've felt strong during a workout. I am not sure what the deal is because I'm not sick. If this doesn't change soon, I'll try giving my body more rest days.
Splits: 7:00, 6:57, 6:57, 6:44, 6:43, 6:44, 6:54, 6:33, 6:32
