Adventure Race race 7:27:00 [4] ***
ahr:141 shoes: Salomon XT Wings
Followed the crowd on the first O leg with a very fresh swim to start the day, one of the disadvantages of being short. Paddle leg went well with Jude steering at the back. Next was the MTB leg, ditched bike for climb up to CP 4
then fairly easy going to 5, decided not to take T junction to 6 and regretted it as next track was only a small MTB trail so took some time working out if this was the correct track. Straight forward until 8 where for some reason we could not find the control, we were in the right spot but alas no CP so frustratingly onto 9 up the nasty hill and to foot O. No probs with this section. Back on bike and over the river crossing, thought I was going to lose Jude at one stage as she went under with her bike, luckily she managed to get back up. On to rogaine and up to the top of the hill (very nasty) and so much for the marked trails, ended up bush bashing back down the hill and across the river (again), must have been starting to get tired as missed the track to O so ended up out near N looking for O, then realised where we were and turned around back to O and back across the river for MTB. At this stage we were short coursed and were told to only get G, E and H....for some stupid reason we decided to go anticlockwise...very bad move, also had lost a chunk out of the map in the paddling section which covered CP G so had no chance of finding it, so back to CP12 then back to headquarters. By this stage we were late for drinks back in Perth so called it a day.
Had a great day, was probably not mentally prepared for that length of race, was thinking it was going to be more like Teva, but really enjoyed the format and will be giving it another go with the goal of completing the entire course next year.
