Running 1:40:00 [3]

Long run. I have several loops that take a little over a half-hour each, so after each one I stopped at the car for a minute or so to drink some Vitalyte before continuing. For the last loop I did the hard part which was 15:00 medium/hard, 2:00 rest, 10:00 hard. The fifteen was pretty easy because at that point I was in my stride and could move pretty fast without exerting myself too much. The ten was a lot harder, or course, but I was able to go through the entire thing and jog the last six minutes of my run.

Map Study 14:15 [3]

This map made my head hurt. There's a lot of stairs vs. no stairs and straighter with turns and things vs. around but smoother running.

Running warm up/down 15:00 [3]

Up. Legs not feeling too springy.

Intervals 26:21 [3]

1200m (4:00-4:10, 3:00 rest), 6x400m (78-80s, 70s rest), 1200m (4:00-4:10)

Times: 4:06, 77, 77, 79, 80, 80, 78, 4:24 (I was 80s after the first 400 but I couldn't hold on).

After I finished I stumbled into the shade behind and electrical box and collapsed. Apparently I looked dead or something because a lady came over to ask if I was okay. Not my day for intervals.

Map Study 10:00 [3]

A fun little sprint. It seems here that flow can make a big difference in effective route choice.

Running 58:00 [3]

Good solid run. I made a special effort to keep my head up so that I wasn't looking at me feet, and I also spent at least twenty minutes trying to visualize what the terrain would look like if it were a map. Not sure if it helps at all, but it was certainly interesting.

Map Study 9:50 [3]

The condition of the woods would make a huge difference on some of these legs. For the most part I aired on the side that they aren't that great, but actually being there and seeing what it's like would make a huge difference.

Map Study 7:15 [3]

About half the legs are easy, the other half are a choice. Nothing especially tricky about this one except one spot where there's a long bridge you go over for one part and can choose to go under for another.

Map Study 7:20 [3]

This one was tricky. A lot of tough choices, but it was fun because the left and the right options were generally very different.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Up. Stopped part way through to talk and stretch.

Running race 21:33 [3]

Catamount 5k. My quads are still a bit stiff from Sunday, but by the end I felt a lot better. Ten seconds faster and I felt pretty strong the entire time.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [3]

Up. Nice and easy to get the blood flowing before the half-marathon.

Running race 1:30:04 [3] 13.1 mi (6:53 / mi)

Half-marathon. Melanie was my partner and I took the first half... which seemed really boring compared to her half, but it was a race so I didn't mind too much. I started out too hard, but I managed to maintain about a 6:30 pace for around 6 miles. By 8 miles I had slowed down a bit, but I was still moving pretty well. I as fairly tired by now, though. The rest of the course just got harder because I had started with too much speed, and by the end my pace must have been close to or over 7:30 because my average was around 6:52 or something. I'm still happy with how fast I was able to do it, and I'm really pleased that I was able to maintain the 6:30 pace for so long. In high school my average 5k time was probably around 19:00 or a bit slower depending on the course, but here I did 3 miles in 19:30 and was still full of energy.
