Orienteering 1:02:13 [2] 5.55 km (11:13 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 Black

Brought the boy out to try the Stars event. Wasn't sure his 9 yr old stamina level, so we worked with his handicap (6). He carried a map to begin with and I keep trying to consult with him, but he just wanted to run :) Found 1 and 2 okay, then into the box for a. I soon realized that pushing through bush is tougher for smaller people, but he did well and we decided to stick more to trails when possible. Over to 3, then back along the trail and over to D. Saw DD11 coming out of D, but not sure what he was up to. Gave the boy the compass for 4-5-6-7 and he was doing well following the bearing, after a granola bar stop. Final run to the finish and he decided to sprint me to the line. He couldn't beat the old man, but I can see that day coming sooner than later. Thanks to Dale, Tim & all the STARS for a great day.

Trail Run 45:00 [3] 5.7 km (7:54 / km)

Warm this morning, so snuck out for a quick valley loop. Snow mostly gone, but clay greasy so out on the flats and then only a little tentative single track on the way back.

Orienteering (O Cup) 1:54:00 [4] 13.0 km (8:46 / km)
shoes: Salomon Speedcross 3 Black

Great day for a snowy O-Cup at Kelso. If it's an O-Cup, it must be time for a classic Wilberto blunder. Once again, no nav issues with CPs I'm looking for - the problems start when I'm not looking for the right one. Started well and found a good groove once my HR got under control. Into box #1 and A, B, then found D and ED, then out around to F. Coming back I realized I didn't need G so I could stay out on the trail, then right over to 8. Moving well now, over to 9, 10 then 11 and over the trail almost to 12. So well, in fact, that I go back and look a little closer at my map. Hmmm. WHAT ABOUT 7? Sigh. Debate going forward, but realize I have time, so I take the trails back through the middle to 7, then back around to 8,9,10,11 again and onto 12 (much faster to CP's the second time around...). Snowing more now, so the elephant tracks into CP's helps. 13B, then 13a, then over to 14 (Great view) and 15. Down below and I can't find D until I look up a little. Around to A, back across and finally down to the finish. Results say I MPed 12, but I was there, so go figure. Thanks to the Gators for a fun event and DD11 for a great course and fun prizing (Kabobs for everyone!). Good to see friends out, although my long route meant I got back late and no time to change. First winterish race with the minivan and I loved it. Climbed in, started the engined, cranked front and back heat, and changed in the back with so much more space than the old Subaru.

Bike Commuting 40 [3] 13.0 km (1170.0 kph)

Commute in. Headwind, so decided on the sheltered valley route. Saw a big buck deer with big antlers just by Bayview and DVP. Construction meant I had to hoist bike over a fence and climb to cross tracks to get around detour.

Trail Run 1:20:00 [3] 8.0 km (10:00 / km)

Off for Remembrance Day, so walked the kids to school, then down for a loop in Taylor Creek before going to the service at the Civic Centre. Crossing the large parking lot, managed to find the only mandarin orange size rock in the WHOLE lot and turn my ankle on it.
Spooky part: I like listening to podcasts when I run and I'm getting into Serial, the NPR podcast that is tracing one story about 1999 murder of a girl and whether her ex boyfriend was wrongly convicted for it. Listening to episode 3, describing the wooded area of a Baltimore city park where the body was discovered, talking at length about walking through these woods and how easy it would be to hide a body and whether it would be easy to see a partially buried body. And I'm listening to this as I'm running in a wooded area of a city park with noone around. I really hope I never "discover" anything in there.

Can't do Raid the Hammer next week, so saw that V02 Ukrainian Club was putting on a training session in Earl Bales Park. Small crowd, but I enjoyed just working through the course at my own pace. Apparently Ukrainians like climbing, as there was lots of up and down. Thanks to Ihor and V02.
