COK, Kings Mountain NMP, Red course, set by Walter Siegenthaler. Excellent course design and setting, great map, and a great day to be out. The quality of the course was on par with an A-meet, at about 1/20th the cost and none of the fuss.

Mapping north of the saddle at Cox Mt., Eno River SP. It was so much easier to map this side of the saddle because there is an enormous rootstock at the top of the hill that is visible for at least a hundred meters from all directions. Placement of most of the newly-mapped features could be verified with respect to this rootstock. No such luck on the south side, which is still a mess of about 30 badly-mapped cairns and rootstocks. I need to bring a bright orange shirt next time, and hang it on a tree at the top of the hill, to mimic the same benefit that I had on the other side.

Field checking 3:15:00 [1] 5.5 mi (35:27 / mi)

Started checking control sites for my meet at Carolina North Forest in early April, and ended up walking most of what is looking like it will be the green course. Good course. Made a dozen or so map edits, but was otherwise pretty happy with how the map is looking.

Orienteering 40:00 [3] 3.1 km (12:54 / km)

Informal BOK meet at an undisclosed location, set by Mihai Ibanescu. In the spirit of avoiding control pickup and leaving no trace, Mihai put circles of flour on the ground to mark the control locations. It took some getting use to, as one could be right next to the control site, but still not see the flour. Nonetheless, a very fun time -- we should do a bunch more of these events, like pretty much every other week, for training.

Orienteering 33:00 [3] 3.2 km (10:19 / km)

Mihai's second course. Quite a bit easier after I had had some experience spotting the flour circles. Additionally, two or three of the control locations were shared between the courses, which made finding them significantly easier.
