COK Red course at Kings Mtn. State Park (Lake York). My first time orienteering in SC. Wow! Very nice park -- excellent map, and great coursesetting. I'm impressed. Halfway through the course, I thought "gee, if COK ever wants to put on an A-meet, this map could work." The park has very open forests, with a lot of relief features, but plenty of opportunities to make parallel errors (I made two bad ones, losing at least 8 minutes total). The map was offset print and we had to draw our own circles -- no problem. Mapper and copyright date were not printed on the map, but it seemed fairly recent; in fact, I was able to use white/light green vegetation changes in several places to navigate (something I have learned not to do ususally). The only bad part (besides my performance on control #4, #10, #11, and #12) was the perrenial lack of map cases. I have begun to bring my own to these meets, but forgot today. Thankfully Walter Siegenthaler lent me one. Great meet; worth the drive.

BOK advanced course at Raven Rock. As luck would have it, controls for the BOK weekend meet were left in the woods. I was happy to do cleanup as a training session. It was quite a crappy day to be out, and the park was a little greener and hillier than is common down here; but it was a good map and a nice course, and I had quite a bit of fun.
