Rogaine 5:00:00 [2] 15.1 km (19:52 / km)
shoes: Brooks Cascadia 8

Hanging controls for the event this weekend. Cold start that turned to shit really quickly when I managed to get the car bogged in a muddy puddle/creek crossing. The front wheels slipped off a ridge I was aiming for and dropped into the axle deep thick mud and water I was trying to avoid. It took about 20 minutes to get it out, nothing more than getting some branches in the hole created by spinning wheels in the mud in the end. It wasn't the way we wanted to start, but it was really the only major issue of the day.

We found that we hadn't paid enough attention to the size of the trees when we put out the setting plates and had to get a bit inventive when hanging some of the controls. Nothing major, but some less than ideal placements at times.

JB managed to break a control when he tripped on a rock surface about 30m away from where we were putting the control. Luckily we had some strapping tape that should hold it together for a week.

Got everything out as planned today, with water drops and controls on tracks still to do on Friday.

Should be a good event ... hopefully

Orienteering race 53:59 [5] 6.7 km (8:03 / km)
shoes: Inov8 Mudclaw 300

H2 at Yetar Spring

Not the most complex of courses, so it was pretty straight forward for the most part. Just a couple of legs where I drifted left or right a bit, but the obvious features around the controls meant I could get back on track easily enough.

Enjoyed the open running and happy to have beaten Craig on the first outing of the year :)

Our Forerunner 305 has stopped talking to the computer again, thankfully we've no more need for it for traces for the rogaine next week. I think it is time we investigated a GPS watch that doesn't have heaps of issues communicating with a PC.
