Maryville trails at lunch. Back to moderate temps with no heat in the forecast until, you guessed it, next Saturday. I'm not stressing over it.

Over to Faust at lunch. Another try at heat acclimation. Still cooler than I'd like (there are at most five people in STL that share that view), but it did feel like a warm run.

And while I'm at it, the DC50 Race Report is done.

In to work in the 60.

Around Maryville Campus staying in the fields rather than the trails to be in the sun. Another attempt at heat acclimation. Waited for the sun to come out in the afternoon, but it still only got up to around 85F so it didn't feel very hot and I certainly wasn't going to nail the pace the day after an all-in 5K. Still, if I can run at all in mid-80's and barely sweat, I'm probably in OK shape for heat tolerance.

Running (Road) 32:00 [2]
shoes: Speedstar 6

Pre-run including a couple 200's on the track in 47s to get some idea of what the opening pace should feel like. It's been quite a while since I've raced this short.

Running (Road) 20:00 [2]

Warmup.

Running race (Road) 19:14 [5] 5.0 km (3:51 / km)
shoes: Grid A2

Golden Games 5K at Lake St. Louis. First overall and a course record, which is fun (though it was obviously a very soft record). Paced well (6:12, 6:15, 6:14, 33). Moderately fast course, measured by Fleet Feet and good conditions, so this time is a pretty good benchmark. That means I'm about 10-15 seconds/mile off from where I'd like to be. That, added to the extra weight (which wasn't an issue today) means Berryman will be about 20 minutes slower than I'd like. Oh, well.

Home from work via Hogs Hollow and Whispering Pines. Idea was to get in some heat acclimation ahead of Berryman. Temp was pushing 90F, but humidity was quite low. Really didn't feel that hot.

(rest day)

New School Barefoot Loop.

Objectively, things are not good. Biggest problem is that I'm about seven pounds heavy, but I think fitness might be off a tick, too. Tomorrow will be telling.

The PT tried something different with the knee today and the initial response seems good. The shoulder is also improving, so the things that were really wrong are getting better, but in the mean time, everything that was good is going to hell. And, that's going into a big layoff for hernia surgery in two weeks. Part of me feels like there's more in there and I just need to find some motivation again. Most of me is thinking we might be getting near the end of the road on this athlete thing.
