FatTire (Trail) 1:03:00 [3]
shoes: Bike:GT Hardtail

Felt better this morning so took the GT over to CC Lake for a hot lap. The GT retakes the lead with a 21:46, although 14 seconds is certainly within sampling error. I'm rather enjoying my role as both participant and impartial observer in this little experiment although the really interesting thing about the data isn't what they say about the bikes (they appear to be pretty equal on this terrain) but what they say for learning a course. I've taken over 4 minutes off my time for this loop simply by gaining the confidence to push faster through the obstacles. None of them are particularly hard, but they are many and you don't get too much time to set each one up. Having a practiced line is way faster than figuring it out on the fly, at least for me. I'll be interested to get Mr. Frei's opinion on the matter as his technical skills on hardpack are a couple notches above mine.

Note

And, unfortunately, that's all I got in today because I spent the rest of the day remodelling the bathroom. At least it's finished so I can run long tomorrow. Of course, it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow. That's life.

Cycling (Road) 13:00 [2]
(sick) shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

I'm not sure what I got hit with. The sudden onset and voracity of symptoms suggests food poisoning. Anyway, the morning was completely miserable. The afternoon was a bit better and Yaya and I went to Sugar Creek Park to ride a bit. I had hoped we'd do some hiking today, but I sure wasn't up to that. Much to my surprise, she declined the rather nice playground in favor of going for a hike herself with one of the other girls who was at the park. While that was nice to see, I was a bit sad I couldn't join her. It won't be too long until she doesn't want me around.

Cycling (Trail) 1:57:00 [3]
shoes: Bike:Redline Mono

CC Lake. I put the 52" gear back on and it certainly made the uphills more fun. One hot lap in exactly 22 minutes, so now I'm really confused: is the GT faster or not? I guess as with so many things, the equipment is secondary to the engine and my engine has been awfully variable as of late.

Tae Kwon Do (Technique) 30:00 [2]

Family class with Yaya.

Cycling (Road) 15:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

And after Yaya got done practicing TKD...

We did a bit of riding.

Running (Track) 48:00 [4]
weight:177lbs shoes: Grid A2

8x300@63 100R. Includes jogging over to track and back.

Early morning track work. This week has been great, but during yesterday's run I could feel the heat filling in. So, I'll be doing more of my quality stuff in the morning workout.

I've also resumed the weekly G postings. I stopped paying attention to it because I really didn't care much, but with the next serious 3-hour marathon attempt less than 6 months away, it's time to start caring again. Target is 170 on race day which implies a training weight of around 165-167. Should be no problem as long as I stay motiviated.

Paddling (Canoe) 38:00 [3]

At CC Lake with Yaya. Two tempo-ish MN Switch efforts of around 15 minutes each with some easy Superior Stroke paddling in between.

Cycling (Road) 37:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

CC Lake bike paths with Yaya on the back. She didn't pedal much, but at least she's getting better about not leaning way off to one side.

Terrain (Trail) 1:29:00 [3]
shoes: Sportiva Grey

Power line to CC Lake with a detour to Whispering Hills to check out their new weight room. Then the Duck at Tempo (19:57), 10 min easy jog, and 8x60m FC go on 2:00.

Cycling (Road) 18:00 [2]
shoes: Bike: Redline tandem

Finally got the tandem hooked to the back of the Redline. Yaya and I rode around the neighborhood for a while. Having a 5-year-old on the back of a bike is very similar to having one in the front of a boat. You still have primary control, but you sure are making a lot of corrections and some of them had best be made pretty quickly.

Tae Kwon Do (Cardio) 25:00 [3]

Classes were cancelled Monday and Tuesday so everybody could get there picture taken. As a result, a whole bunch of folks showed up for family class. That meant more time had to be set aside for working individual forms, so Master Warren really had us hit it for the abbreviated group session. Fun - I wish we had a few more classes like that.

Paddling (Canoe) 1:05:00 [3]

At CC Lake again with Yaya. Light breeze this evening, so it seemed like a good opportunity for pushing a bit. Alternated between J strokes and Minnesota Switch. As Yaya was again adding random inputs to the front, I didn't notice one being much better than the other. Pretty sure the Switch will work better with Brad as long as we get some time to practice together.

Running (Road) 29:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 Black

Easy jog round the hood.

Paddling (Canoe) 40:00 [3]

At CC Lake with Yaya up front. She's now making a modest attempt to propel the boat which means that, in addition to the wind, I had some random steering inputs from the front to deal with. Made for a good technique workout. Put in a few good efforts.
