Cycling (Road) 55:00 [2]
(rest day) shoes: Bike:Cannondale Road

Feeling remarkably well for the day after a rogiane. Legs sore, obviously, and the usual swelling and aches from the ankles, knees, and hips. Since we drove back last night, I was able to spend the morning taking Yaya to church and then a park. Walked to the grocery store and did some chores around the house. Was going to leave it at that when, much to my surprise, Kate told me I really should get out or I'd be miserable tomorrow. She was right of course, but it's a pretty rare day when she's pushing me out the door. A short spin in the 60 did loosen things up a bit, but all the signals are there that I'll still be pretty stiff tomorrow.

Orienteering race (Woods) 10:27:15 [4] ** 44.0 km (14:15 / km) +1700m 11:57 / km
36c shoes: Mercury Blue

Conquer Crossroads 12-hour at Morgan-Monroe Forest, IN (1:24) with David Frei. Hard to imagine a long event going much better. Biggest "error" was around 5 minutes and really the result of a rather horrific omission on the map rather than a mistake on our part. Fortunately, we figured out very early on that the contours were ridiculously generalized and adjusted accordingly. Punched the final control just as it was getting dark enough that I needed my light to read the map. Rather than get it out, I just let David bring us home.

The lame mapping effort by USGS notwithstanding, it was a good course in a good area. Very steep in spots and with some nasty woods. Almost all the ridgetops had at least a trail, if not jeep track, so around routes were the order of the day. We ended up running a LOT more than we normally would in an event of this length. I'd say between 7 and 8 hours of huffing it on trail. Very fun to do this with a teammate up to that task.

First overall; only team to sweep.

Running (Road) 1:08:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 Black

User meeting went well, probably no more all-nighters for a while. The casualty of all this was the long run. Of course I'll get plenty of distance this weekend, but 12-hours in the woods isn't particularly good marathon training. I think the marathon has moved into the category of expensive training run. Still should be fun, but it's just madness to think I'll be able to give it a good go given the lack of quality distance work.

Running (road) 35:00 [2]
shoes: 2140 Black

Easy pre-dawn jog round the hood.

Running (Road) 51:00 [2]
shoes: 2130 White

Mezzanotte! Actually, just before that so I could go by the store and replenish the coffee supply (it will be needed tonight). For better or worse, this should be the end of the late-night programming. User meeting tomorrow.

Also the swan song of the beloved Asics 2130's. They're discontinued and I've been doing short runs in this pair because they fit me so perfrectly. However, I could really feel that the midsole is shot this evening, so no more. I have no beef with the 2140's, but the 2130's were perfect.

Kate went to the dentist and came back with one of her teeth in a little box. Fortunately, it's one of the back molars, so you can't see that it's missing. I had Yaya duty all afternoon and evening while she convalesced and that meant the long run got bumped again. I suppose I can try tomorrow, although that will be stepping on this weekend's rogaine a bit. The prospects for this marathon are getting really grim.
