Running race 1:29:12 [4] 15.3 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: asics GT-2150
Great NOSH footrace. This is the first time MaryMac or I have done this, and it was great fun.
Luckily the rain didn't come until the afternoon so we had a dry race - at least from the waist up. The track was wet with a series of mud and puddles at regular intervals so my shoes and socks and legs were a lovely grey colour from the mud. Some aspects were harder than I thought they would be - the track is quite rocky and narrow in parts; and others were easier - I kept waiting for the 'big climbs' that people at the start were talking about but they don't exist, just some short sharp pinches along the way.
I started about 2/3 of the way towards the back so it took me about 3km to get past the majority of the runners who were slower than me. I then settled into the run and tried to relax and enjoy it, and look at the views of Middle Harbour occasionally.
My km splits are all over the place due to the varying combinations of track width/rockiness/puddleness and the crowd in front:
5:20 (lots of people in front)
6:21 (lots of people in front walking on the narrow path)
6:07 (people starting to thin out)
4:48
5:26
10:41 (I missed the 7km sign)
5:27
7:07 (steep bits up)
8:11 (steep bits down)
6:56
5:09
5:58 (last of the hills)
4:52
5:22 (very narrow and winding through the scrub)
1:19 (last 300m)
Scored a Great NOSH mug in the lucky draw prizes, plus there were hot showers at Seaforth Oval so all was good.
