XC-Skiing 20:00 [1]

Snow plows knocked back the piles across a couple sections of the track;-( It's a good problem to have;-)

XC-Skiing 30:00 [2]

Rachael missed practice for another event and we worked out together. Bad news - wind! Some areas were blown out, others completely covered over. ugh;-)

XC-Skiing 30:00 [1]

XC race at Mendon Ponds. Helped the less experienced girls get going at a shorter skate event, and then crossed the road for the V/JV Boys and Girls classic. Rachael got off with the JV girls and two teammates this time and finished right with them. She felt good about it.

Afterwards we both went back to the groomed area and covered the skate course.

XC-Skiing 20:00 [2]

Nice routine for the morning - clear the driveway (by hand or with snowblower if significant), and then some loops on the track.

XC-Skiing 30:00 [1]

Went out with my younger daughter - at 9 yrs old in the 4th grade, she did surprisingly well. We'll have to help her along in that...-)

More snow today!-) Woo-hoo!

XC-Skiing 20:00 [1]

Reset the tracks after the addition of a good 6 inches of new snow. Had run a parallel set so Rachael and I could do it together.

XC-Skiing 15:00 [1]

Just some tooling around at Mount Pittsford. Unfortunately Rachael and I got cold during the boys and girls varsity races and went to warm up. We were watching for the JV boys to finish, but when we went out it appeared JV boys and girls went out together and so she missed her start...-( At least it's a lesson that isn't likely to get repeated (and better now than later). I apologized to Rachael for my part in it...

Went out with Rachael, her practice was canceled. Coached her on her style a small amount. Not sure if she isn't getting good coaching on technique with the team or not listening to it...

XC-Skiing warm up/down 30:00 [1]

Went back out to find Rachael - she did the short course alone. Looks like she had trouble at a couple places, but none worse than from 2 to 3 - she ended up back at 1, but realized where she was after that. Couple spills. I was able to meet her between 5 and 6 and shadowed her the rest of the way in.

From a technical difficulty, this was exactly the same course as the longer - I had been counseling her that the shorter route would be simpler, but alas no. Any comments as to the normalcy of this setup? (I remember doing a shorter course with my son 2-3 winters ago and it was not that hard)

XC-Skiing race 1:25:00 [3] ** 11.5 km (7:23 / km)

Middle distance Ski-O at Mendon ponds for 40-54 age range. Appears to be 3rd place. [edit] It looks like the two in front of me were grand masters as the paper reported I won the men's masters division;-)

Just got enough snow to run this event, and the trails by the pond were all chewed up. Ended up running 1/2 of the first leg.

Fun event - one stretch I was the first to ski down a section it looks like everyone else walked - particularly hairy on the leg leading right up to #5 - I had a close call but stayed up and was able to slow down to get right to the control.

Couple logs across trails and needed to brush past ice covered branches.

I made liberal use of the "you can take your skis off" rule;-) (obstacles and up hills) Did well on the downhills.

Didn't feel like I was in good XC form, but have not been out much yet, didn't feel great, have slacked off on some conditioning lately, and the track at times as not the best. (classic) Probably held back a little, but didn't want to fade in the end.

Had a nice finish passing Jim Russell before the last control.

4 minutes behind first - need more speed on the skis as I wouldn't change the route at all.

XC-Skiing 21:00 [2]

We have enough snow to create a loop in the yard - somewhat tight, and only limited straightaways, but easy to get out the door;-)

Gym 2:30:00 [2]

Boy Scout night at the Penfield Fitness & Racquet Club - an hour shooting hoops and some pickup games with the scouts (can't remember the last time I played B-ball - could be 20 years...-); played catch with a racquet ball with my daughters; hit the ball around on a court for a while; and ended up in the pool and hot tub. Very nice night;-)

XC-Skiing 25:00 [2]

Didn't get a chance to rewax, but it wasn't as bad today with the warmer snow - kind of like skiing with resistance...

XC-Skiing 30:00 [2]

Rachael missed practice for her piano lesson and when she returned we zipped right over to Greenwood Park and got out for a half hour on the snow!-)

My glide wax wasn't so full of glide though, and it was not as fun as I wanted - but hey - we have snow!

Stuck to the grassy median wherever possible, harder running, but nicer on the knee.

Nice easy run this morning to get back into it... Would like to do it and keep the knee happy. Tried to see if some aspect of my gait is different for the left vs right knee (never have any issues with right knee) - none noticed.
