Summary Roleystone

I knew it goanna be rough today…

Did not sleep well (as someone was not sleeping well tonight), had no breakfast and rushed out of home without having a proper coffee, not a good start for the day. Ok that concludes my excuses' section.

Given the above-mentioned, I decided to take the medium course today. Which turned out to be a disaster, as i left my brain at home.

Had a good start with CP1 (110) and CP2 (104), then I was a bit over-confident and overshoot the correct turn to CP3 (106), went back to the bitumen road to re-orient my self and then took it cleanly, but unfortunately lost at least 7-8 minutes. Then, took it pretty clean to CP4 (114). Next, was CP5 (115) I always like the long distance points as I can push hard on the pedals…yet I completely made it too fast and instead of turning south through the open area I came from the bitumen road from the west, which cost me at least 6 to 7 minutes. Then, cycled hard as I could (on the road) south towards CP6 (116) and passed at least one rider with blue coat (never seen him before), then straight into the dirt road and the small single but I missed the point (which was sneakily hanged sharply to the right), had to came back and lost some precious time in my attempts to find it (eventually I found it). CP7 (117) was a bit tricky, but I saw Tash standing just beside it, so that was helpful. CP8 (118) and CP 9 (119) were very clean and fast and I was ranked 2nd in both of these splits ((-;

Then, out to the road towards CP10 (111), my initial plan was to cycle east along the bitumen road and then up northwest as the distance and contours seemed less scary. However, there was a farm, which I found retrospectively out of bounds and I picked the trail along it, which did not appear on the map (of course).

So, I have become over-stressed and returned west to the track that climbs north along the fence and then turned east to pick CP10 (111), so lost there another 4-5 minutes in my rash meanders. Then, the obvious route choice would be to go northeast towards the fence’s corner and find the track that goes east towards CP 11 (107), but I have messed this one badly! And become over-stressed, so instead of going back to CP10 (111) [re-orient my self] and then take it slowly to the fence corner, I have decided to go down to the bitumen road and take the long ride to CP11 (107), by then I knew I am screwed for the day (as that incurred a massive time lost).

Surprisingly, after CP11 (107) and with no pressure anymore, I found my brain and made a clean run home, which obviously was too little and too late!

Hopefully things will work better next time…Aha and my Strava stopped working after 300 mt…what a day (-; time to buy GPS watch.

I like this quote: “We strive not for perfection but for progress, let’s test this by the end of this season…”

If i have not said this yet, thanks heaps for Richard and family for a great course and effort.
