Trail Run 4:20:58 [1] 17.32 mi (15:04 / mi) +1364m 12:06 / mi

This was a ridiculous run. The conference had a casino night and I didn't really want to go to that (also, dubious ethically as a Federal Employee) so I went back to the hotel. Waited a bit longer than maybe I should have but it did mean running up the access road in the shade. Then found the Killington trail map, took the A-Climb, and went straight up a lift line. 1535 feet over a mile, about the Ammy.
Caught an excellent sunset off the mountain, and could have headed back through the woods and down the road, 8 miles in 1:45 and gone to bed. But, no, I remembered (wrongly) that the AT was runnable down to Route 4. I thought about heading on the old AT to Pico for the connector trail back to Killington but when I saw it was only 3.8 miles to Route 4 I went that way. I regretted my decision for most of this descent was too rocky/muddy/rooty to run in the dark.
Made it to Route 4 by 9, ran up to Pico, found my way onto the Summit Road (which had a bunch of "don't use this road work going on" signs but a) those are for amateurs and b) those are for daytime) and marched up the hill. This was quite nice. A bit cooler, a bit of a breeze, and I crested the top onto the access trail back to Killington.
This was kind of the whole goal of the run I think? Killington built this trail a while ago to connect to Pico, but never got permission to build the crossing trail or lift which would really connect them, so it sort of gets used in the summer and groomed in the winter when they are moving grooming equipment back and forth. It was a nice jog down, and then I decided (kind of dumbly, but whatever) to take the bike trail down from there because the road had a small but steep climb.
No worse for wear I arrived back at the hotel around bedtime. Not bad for a Wednesday!
If only they would start the conference at 9 instead of 8. But I am breakfast-motivated!
