Orienteering race 17:45 [5] *** 2.0 km (8:53 / km) +15m 8:33 / km

JK Sprint.
Punching start not correctly administrated - time taken from pre-start "clear" device.
Relatively straight forward campus sprint at Reading University.
Thrown by an adjacent control at one point - lost 30s.

Note

Rest day in advance of the JK.
First event: sprint on Friday at Reading University.
8 AM

shoes: Lidl Cycling Shoes 2011

Home -> Work
Sunny morning and just about freezing. Felt chilly so still had thick coat, balaclava etc.

7 AM

Cycling 6:00 [3] 1.4 mi (4:17 / mi)
shoes: Lidl Cycling Shoes 2011

Home -> Pool

Swimming 42:00 [4] 2.1 km (20:00 / km)

Pool reasonably busy, but held up more than I might've expected for such little congestion (av about 5 people in the lane).
Felt quite good. Didn't catch start time, but extrapolated back after about 4 lengths, therefore time a bit of an approximation. Pace was pretty good and did an extra couple of lengths for the hell of it!
Also some small compensation for a) not running on Thursday (rest befor JK); and b) missing Easter Monday swim session - next swim should be Wednesday 3rd April.
8 AM

Cycling 12:30 [3] 3.0 mi (4:10 / mi)
shoes: Lidl Cycling Shoes 2011

Pool -> Work.
Quite pleasant out - perhaps spring may (at last) be on it's way.
5 PM

Cycling 15:00 [3] 2.8 mi (5:21 / mi)
shoes: Lidl Cycling Shoes 2011

Work -> Lidl (3Br) -> Home
Vital supplies of chocolate for Easter.

Still very cold (around freezing, but felt like -4C).
Back to big coat and glasses.
12 PM

Note

Cycled to Toolstation at lunchtime for Stall Clips for FOGP banner.
Not sure of distance or time, but probably less than 1 mile each way.
5 PM

Cycling 13:00 [4] 2.8 mi (4:39 / mi)
shoes: Lidl Cycling Shoes 2011

Work -> Badminton.
Left far too late (17:30) and had to rush.
6 PM

Badminton 40:00 [3]
shoes: Nike

Short session (only two games, though good ones).
Arrived very late and missed first 15-20 mins of session.
7 PM

Cycling 10:00 [3] 2.2 mi (4:33 / mi)

Sporting the new Lidl cycling helmet!
Still bitterly cold (about freezing point, but felt like -5C) - should've used the balaclava.

Swimming 40:24 [4] 2.0 km (20:12 / km)

Not expecting a particularly fast session after a two O event weekend, but arrived a little earlier than of late and had reasonable energy for this session.
Just within evens time at halfway point and on;y 24s outside 40minute target at the end, so fairly pleased.
8 AM

Cycling 13:00 [3] 3.0 mi (4:20 / mi)

Pool -> Work.
Seemed quite a lot of traffic about, but managed to keep moving well in spite of it.
Balaclava for this trip - magic!
NB still cold.

Verdley Short Brown.
Final details had played down the extent of the brashings. Seemed just as bad to me as previously and dominated 90% of the course. Mud was also of a particularly sticky and slippery type.
Tried to keep a positive viewpoint and take care on bearings and resulted in a fairly successful (if physical) race. Didn't make too many mistakes. Possibly a bit too slow at times, but feeling tired from Angmering event the previous day and taking the early shift on childcare (ended up carrying E for about half an hour).

General shape of the area and detail in the terrain made it very promising (an almost Scottish type experience), but the brashings certainly detracted from the enjoyment and slowed progress down significantly (reflected in the course lengths).
