I absolutely love this event as the first one of the Fall season. This was my second time at Mike's Maze and it was flipping awesome. Had so much fun. Classic course went Ok for me: when I was focused, I nailed it but as soon as I got distracted, I started making mistakes. It's so easy to mess up. Calves definitely sore from yesterday but running did not feel bad at all.

Orienteering race 7:00 [3] 1.01 km (6:57 / km) +1m 6:55 / km

Bah, Sprint just did not work for me. Could not concentrate until the fourth control and there were only six. Fail.

Night Maze-O! Rules were a little different this year: we had to get odd numbered controls first in order and then even ones to get maximum amount of points. Navigationally, I performed Ok, did make some mistakes and had trouble reading ahead and finding the next control number on the map. It was fun to run with other people while trying to not collide with anyone. Only Joe shoulder checked me, which seemed (felt) to be purposeful (better watch out, Joe, I will give you separate map on the Highlander and who knows where you will end up...).

Mom and I started the weekend early by hiking Mt Washington. We had great weather: sunshine and little wind, but that did lead to some sunburn (first of the year!). We went up the Boott Spur route, which was a lovely trail with no crowds and we went down the Lion's Head route, which was très-rocky and required some rock climbing skills to get down. I also climbed some boulders on the way up, thinking of how proud Ching-Hua would be.
I must say, I was not impressed with the peak itself, as it is quite ugly with its rounded, uninteresting shape, and the towers sticking out, and the parking lots with tons of people once you get there. Anyway though, this was a good hike and mom wanted to come here for a long time, so well worth it. Got to visit Alex too, and she cooked us some ridiculous meatballs (Thanks!!).

And weekend of fun and training continues with a trip to our beloved Harriman park for some Highlander vetting. The section I did today is quite fast and fun; I hope people enjoy it. I had to change a few control locations and pick up a few beer cans, but was pleasantly surprised to see a nice trail where I thought there would be too much overgrowth. Also double checked a few streamers Asya put out on my way back.

Swimming 30:00 [1]

After trying hard to overdose on watermelon we went for a nice easy swim at Lake Sebago, except that we decided we want to cross the lake to the other side, which we did. It took us around 20 min to get there and 10 min back. I could feel the soreness from climbing but the water was super nice.
