Orienteering 1:18:00 [3]

Mom designed me a course on Lewis Morris, which focused primarily on hill-work and fighting through green. I survived the hills but not the thorns.. With each control I checked off things I was not doing properly navigationally-wise. However, the more I think about the various aspects of orienteering that I need to improve upon, the less it is "natural" process for me (as it used to be when I was not doing it competitively). Have to find some balance, otherwise I'm just screwing with my head.

Running 50:00 [3]

Verona park run on a nice and breezy, 70F afternoon (to quote the weatherman). Felt good, did some light jumps and three pull-ups :)

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

An honest attempt to wake myself up for the race, failed. Need to develop a better warm-up system. Not nearly nervous enough to race.

Orienteering race 42:39 [4]

Middle distance is probably my favorite O-discipline. I am quite terrible at it though. Route choices were far from optimal throughout the course, the lack of training to blame. Had a mistake on #2, where I attacked the control from the top, was too high and got confused by unmapped cliffs and rocks. Poor route execution to 3. Not focused for first half at all. Once the Canadians crossed my path, however, it was game. Now I just need to bring this competitiveness 100% of the time and I'm all set. Caught up with Hilly at the last few controls and thought she would race me to the finish but she didn't, probably got scared.. hehe. .
Great course, nice and technical, just the way I like 'em.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race 1:45:00 [3]

The long distance started out Ok for me, hopping along and sweating like crazy. Route choices were questionable but not terrible. After first loop I was getting mentally tired and by the time I got to 12 I could no longer think or understand anything on the map. Spent some time on the cliffs before finally seeing the crack in the correct set of cliffs where the control was. I concentrated on the next leg but it was no use, couldn't read the map and legs were giving out under me. First time in my life I decided I couldn't continue. Usually I just finish the course on auto pilot but I guess the heat got to me today. Should have drank some water btwn the loops..
