Event: Yetar Spring

Orienteering 1:15:09 [4] 6.3 km (5.0 kph)

No major issues although the brain was a little foggy and decisions were slow. Very crappy veg into #1, Walked to #4 to help with navigation in another crappy veg area but still stopped short and lost 1m. The leg to 5 seemed to unrunable most of the way. Most split times except for Shot rats agree with me. Close to #5 I was on the wrong side of a knoll, but it was a desperate fight to get to the right side where the control was. 2-3 min extra. No issues after that.

Hockey 1:20:00 [4]

Knock out final against the top side. 2-0 against at half time which we turned around to 2-2 after full time and extra time. We won on a penalty shoot out which we felt we deserved as we had the momentum from half time. Unfortunately it now means an extra game i.e the grand final next week which interferes with the orienteering.

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [4] 16.2 km (26.3 kph)
shoes: Giant TCR

Felt like crap today and the cooler air did not help. Tiredness from yesterdays hockey game, hangover from the dentist's anesthetic and throw in a bit of work stress did not help.

Cycling 32:35 [4] 16.0 km (29.5 kph)

Amazing what a diference 9hrs makes - a tail wind also helps. Out of Leederville hung onto the back of a group of 3 which soon became 2 sitting on 33kph. I was coasting but noticed both slowed far more than I wanted on the climb over Scarborough beach road. So the next climb I took off to pass them both. However I did not look up and scared the bejesus out of a guy coming down the hill. I just pulled left in time.

Walking 1:00:00 [1]

Took day off work - because I can. Final checking of control sites for Lovers Lane Long Distance champs. What a fantastic day - clear sky and no wind. The area is toning up to a brilliant shade of green and some of the bush is now out in brilliant flower. Changed a couple of legs on the easy course to avoid a thick patch of bush. Also walked one of the legs through an area containing brown features. The mapping is good but is a necessary simplification. Slow and steady should be derigour as it is not straight forward as it looks on the map.

Cycling 1:23:11 [4] 39.13 km (28.2 kph)

Wrap up the afternoon with a ride to the coast Burns Beach road then back home by the Freeway.

All this would have been better done in the morning as there was a howling southerly wind which had its initial benefits along west coast road were I was keeping up with the cars. At one stage I even had a truck drafting me. Average 30+ on the way out even without a warmup. But I payed for it on the way back with some tough sections whre teh bike path was exposed to the freeway. Who needs a fancy windtrainer when all you had to do for resistance training was to cycle south.

Highlights seeing the white caps out on the water and decent waves crashing on the rocks
