Note

NEOC's got their point standings online. Second to Ian like last year, but by dint of overzealous attendance, not talent.

also, test rode a jamis exile comp today at EMS. really dug it, made me pine for my old steel jamis exile - may it rust in peace. unfortunately the 19" frame was too small. oddly, it's got the same bottom-of-the-line rockshox xc32 fork that shows up on every bike in my price range - but it felt way less wooden on this bike. odd.

i still regret test riding that sweet steel el mariachi with the plush fork.

diddily squat up for grabs on the craig list, too.

aaand there were just two super-major cyclocross races in the area - gloucester last weekend and providence this weekend. wish i had known about either of them - would've been a hoot to go watch.

Note

Had to drive down to East Bridgewater to pick up lasercut parts from work, and dragged Alicia and Coop along to join in the fun. Tried the time-honored "find the biggest nearby green sploch on google maps" and ended up at Borderlands SP in Easton, MA. Real cool early-1900s stone mansion, and a fun little trail network. centerpiece is a huge boggy tangle o' nature - probably wouldn't make very good orienteering.

Orienteering 2:08:34 [3] *** 5.29 km (24:18 / km) +265ft 22:35 / km
spiked:10/11c

about to step ouut the door, and my magicshine had no signs of life. fortunately, nothing some emergency kitchen table soldering of the battery pack couldn't fix

walked the short course with the folks. not enough time left to go run one, but no big deal. still a lot of fun to do it at a walk. less relocation practice, though. came in third (>60% DNF!), with 5 seconds over fourth place. apparently dad printed their splits and put them on the fridge

only one screwup, wrong way on the trail out of 2. so it goes.

Climbing (Gym) 1:30:00 [3]

solid outing. all the available 3's, i think. finally got the 3+ that ended on a finicky overhanging feature. got a good one-armed monkey swing reward for my troubles. ook. decent slacklining and girdled about 3/4 of the gym, too.

faster than i intended, but slow and a high heart rate for the effort. don't really know why. fueled by a burrito last night, that should have been the end of the story. kinda warmishly humid out, didn't really feel like i was dumping much heat or getting much precious, precious oxygen.

183.6# pre-run

that's almost a tenth of a stone!

yogi 1:00:00 [3]

yoga at metro. surprisingly satisfying for fluffed out hippie crap. so sweaty. sweatier than a really sweaty sweaty thing. serious hand-mat traction issues.

Climbing (Gym) 1:00:00 [3]

second time in a row, climbing like a machine after yoga. crushed a half-dozen 3's, a few tough 2's, and fiddled on a 4 for awhile.

Note

new SI stick on the way from the kind folk at Sportident.us. Got a lanyard this time. and the nuclear green stick.

Note

just saw this 4.1mi trail race in gloucester on the 14th. if not for the NEOC Boxford meet, I think I'd go. can always just run it myself

actual reason i wanted to post a note: anybody local have a truing stand? mr. front bike wheel needs some love.

Running 38:43 intensity: (6 @0) + (22 @1) + (11 @2) + (7:11 @3) + (29:37 @4) + (1:16 @5) 7.47 km (5:11 / km) +233ft 4:57 / km

fresh pondtervals, 3x800. interesting way to start the day

looking at the splits, now i understand why that first one felt so hard. shouldn't've gone out that hard. i thought everything was way slower, except the recoveries. those felt that slow.

got some good perspective on how far it is to a 20:00 5k - the 6:20 pace of the second two intervals comes in at 19:40. Then I need to keep that pace for six times the length. and change.

the interval feature on the garmin is actually pretty damn kickass, and way easy to use.
