Orienteering 2:24:00 [3]

Brown course at Huntington. Nominal 4.0km. I probably went 6 km.

One oops: forgot my iPhone, so no tract recorded.

First O'ing since May 2021.
Longest hike since May 2021 (hikes limited to 1.2km since Sep.t 2021 hip replacement.
First hike after recovering from COVID fatigue 10 days ago.
Found all controls.
No leg pains (my adductor was in agony just getting around inside Walmart a few weeks ago) but legs and lungs exhausted at Finish.

In view of suspected impairment of right adductor, I never ran and shunned loping straight down slopes or attacking climbs straight up, I spent a good portion of my steps going far to left or right to find gentler slopes or trees to hold on to or rocks to avoid. Going over walls and logs was very slow. I figure 60 of the 144 minutes was being cautiously circuitous. Those diversions often resulted in my losing contact with the map. Relocation choices were OK but added an unusual amount of time for Mr Slowski here.

Navigation was rusty. Had trouble agreeing with map's contours even at places where I knew with certainty where I was.

Missed and must have crossed unknowingly at least a couple of trails I was depending on as catching features. Ended up going through green between #7 and #8 when I had expected to find and follow trail skirting it to the east. Absolutely beautiful area with bare rock caps adorned with nice stone monuments, moss, sunshine. If I had had my hammock I would have quit the course there and relaxed for awhile.

It was really nice to be out in the woods again.

Big week coming up for seeing doctors: my one year check up by hip surgeon on Tuesday, annual wellness test with PCP on Thursday morning, and consult with cataract eye surgeon that afternoon. I guess as we get older conversations always becomes organ recitals,
