Trekking (Trail) 50:00 [1] 3.0 km (16:40 / km)

Our teenaged niece and nephew from Yellowknife are in Toronto for a short visit along with their Dad. They were away at summer camp when the town was evacuated and they’re on their way home. We met the family, including Richard’s Mom, at the Kortright Centre with the dogs. After a picnic lunch, a few of us went for a hilly hike. A park staff member warned us there is giant hogweed by the river but those side trails were closed, which disappointed the teens in our group.

Happy 27th wedding anniversary to us! :)

Trekking (Trail) 40:00 [1] 3.2 km (12:30 / km)

Stephen and I went for our first hike together in Palgrave West. He's not perfectly behaved off-leash but he's pretty darned good. I only leashed him up for the parts where we had to sneak past poison ivy.

Until recently, his activity was limited because he was recovering from surgery on his leg that was broken but not repaired when he was a baby. He is now allowed to be as active as he wants while he starts to build up his fitness. He'll have arthritis in that elbow though, so we'll have to watch for pain.

After our walk and the subsequent emergency trip to the vet, I went out for a short hike to try to identify the mushroom he appeared to eat (but possibly didn't). Ironically, it's called a dog stinkhorn. Stephen is totally fine and fully cleansed inside now, lol.

Note

Welcome to our family! Stephen (no AP name yet) is almost 1 year old and is reminding us of all the things we'd forgotten about energetic puppies. On the bright side, we'll need to keep the house really tidy - especially the counters! He is gentle and affectionate, and has a kind heart in spite of a difficult start in life. Richard and I are excited to have a two-dog family again, and our other dog Logan (aka AdventureDog) is getting lots of exercise as they romp around and figure out their new relationship.
