‘Bent and I poured champagne (which we never do) to watch the Tour de France arrive on the Champs Élysées. It’s been an exciting race!

Strength & Mobility (Physio) 4:00 [3]

These micro-sessions are weighted one-footed heel lifts. The theory is that they strengthen my calf muscles and encourage the fibres in my injured Achilles tendon to grow in a more organized, less painful fashion. Current weight is 55 lb.

Home town funeral for the minister who married us, who is also a good friend’s Mom. There were a few people I hadn’t seen for 4 decades.

Paddling (Canoe) 1:32:50 [3] 8.16 km (5.3 kph)

After BazingaDog's successful canoe paddle last weekend, we wanted to try both dogs in the canoe in anticipation of a backcountry trip so we returned to the Beaver River. Sometimes they start playing when they're together so this could have gone badly but they were great.

AdventureDog is an old hand at canoeing although he gets excited near shore. "Oh no! Are they going to abandon me? My first owners did. Could this be the campsite? I *love* campsites. Woof woof WOOF!"

BazingaDog was totally relaxed after learning the ropes last week. Unbelievably, he was the better dog in the boat. All the same, I wouldn't trust him to stay nearby in the dark while we're hanging the food at a backcountry campsite. AdventureDog is still our obedient one.

Exhausted this morning due to a poor sleep after hearing that a friend - a doting father of two young girls - was killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking with his wife in a quiet town. Other good friends are preparing to say goodbye to a brother who has chosen MAiD today. And we're adjusting our plans to attend the Saturday funeral of a friend's Mom - the minister who married us. She was housebound but got Covid and was unable to fight it off. It's a "hug your friends and family" and "plan things with other people before it's too late" day.

I'm not sure if anyone here would remember our adventure racing friends and occasional teammates, Wayne and Kathryn Cassidy, who moved to Tajikistan years ago. They're home in Canada for a while and we had a picnic lunch today with their four boys and our two dogs. Alas, 'Bent was working but he did get to say hello.
