Paddling (Canoe) 1:32:36 [2] 10.81 km (7.0 kph)

Nice Sunday morning paddle on the Nottawasaga River with Goose and Coach LD, followed by lattes and treats in their beautiful new back yard.

Trekking (Trail and Off-Trail) 1:30:00 [1] 8.03 km (11:13 / km) +88m 10:38 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro GTX - Black

I'm now on the Kolapore Trails Committee so I spent the afternoon pulling garlic mustard. Logged at 50% because there was a lot of hiking involved.

I tried not to step on a gazillion Jack-in-the-pulpits! They are so cool. (Btw Merriam Webster says it's also correct to write Jacks-in-the-pulpit, which explains why I wasn't sure which way to go on that.)

Trilliums are still out but it's their last hurrah.

Note

Ultrarunning tragedy in China: Mountain weather turned cold and windy with freezing rain and hail in a high altitude section from 20-31 km of a 100 km race. Of 172 runners, 21 have died and others have been hospitalized - unbelievable and heartbreaking. It’s easy to be an armchair quarterback but it sounds like they may not have had proper weather forecasting, race communications, disaster management plan and mandatory gear list.

Further info from iRunFar, including that Jing Liang, an elite ultrarunner and winner of the past 3 editions of the race, was one of the victims.

Mountain Biking (Single Track) 1:45:06 [3] 19.81 km (11.3 kph) +316m

Ride around Kolapore with Mrs. Gally and Dee. I hadn't seen them for a couple of months so it was great to catch up. This was a nice route with a little gravel road to get between two rideable sections.

Note my pandemic hair "style"!

I was the initial greeter, traffic cop and Dreaded Sanitizer Lady at the Caledon East mass vaccination clinic today. It was interesting and encouraging to see the wide variety of people who wanted their first shot. I was surprised that they don't need to live in Peel Region. There was a full range of ages but there were a number of people in their teens and early 20s. To keep things interesting. I struck up conversations with people who were excited or nervous. A couple of young women dressed up like it was a wedding because they said they had nowhere else to go this year. That's been my plan to celebrate my 2nd shot! :)

The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was that I had to remove my good mask and replace it with their Level 1 surgical mask. 'Bent and I figure I can wear a better mask under their mask next time. It was *really* weird being in a hockey arena full of humans after all these isolated months.

Trekking (Trail & Road) 45:00 [1] 3.0 km (15:00 / km)
shoes: Salomon XA Pro Grey

Hike around Palgrave village with an Open Orienteering Map. I'm designing a Scavenger Hunt for a seniors' program associated with a local community group. They'll walk to places on the map and answer questions to prove they've been there. I'm getting a draft ready so the program organizer can test it.

I've just been approved for my first volunteer shift at Caledon's mass vaccination clinic. Big smile.

Mountain Biking (Single Track) 2:22:51 [3] 21.82 km (9.2 kph) +344m

Fun ride with 'Bent on a beautiful morning. Difficulty ranged from flowy to hike-a-bike.

I'm having one of my Pandemic Low days. I'm hoping the combination of mountain biking, sunshine, cuddly dogs (and 'Bent), the Giro d'Italia online, chocolate cheesecake and wine will snap me out of it.
