XC Skiing - Classic (Ungroomed) 1:23:20 [3] 6.33 km (4.6 kph) +80m

Mrs. Gally just got classic skis so we went out for an easy ski on a very chilly morning.

Snowshoeing (Ungroomed) 1:38:02 [2] 5.0 km (19:36 / km) +120m 17:30 / km
shoes: Salomon Snowcross 2 Unspiked

Night snowshoe in kilts with Goose, Coach LD and 'Bent to make up for our pandemic-missed Robbie Burns Dinner. Wonderful to catch up. The stars eventually came out so we could turn our headlamps off some of the time.

Snowshoeing (Ungroomed) 22:00 [1] 1.23 km (17:50 / km) +72m 13:47 / km

Short snowshoe around the front part of the property with the pooches. The wind was too gusty to go into the forest. BazingaDog kept sneaking back onto the driveway to avoid the deep snow but AdventureDog was a rock star, leading the way with his ears plastered straight back for some reason. Maybe that's what the dogs do when they break trail in the northern Québec community he lived in until six years ago this week.

XC Skiing - Classic (Ungroomed) 1:09:40 [2] 4.48 km (3.9 kph) +100m

Deep snow ski with 'Bent and our neighbour Darcie. I described the conditions as "Antarctic" because the snow squalls were blowing so hard that we wanted to stay on fields or in areas with short, young trees, i.e. away from older trees with dead branches. I flirted with frostbite but it was all worth it when Darcie gave us fresh-baked challah to ski home with.

Snowshoeing (Ungroomed) 40:04 [1] 1.74 km (23:05 / km) +88m 18:26 / km
shoes: Salomon XA Pro GTX - Black

Mostly deep snow including one long section with fallen trees, rocks and woody debris beneath the snow. At one point, I plunged into a deep hole and got my foot stuck between tree branches. 'Bent and the pooches would have helped me but I wanted to figure out how to extricate myself in case this happens when I'm alone some time. I had to reach way down into the hole and manipulate my snowshoe until it came out the same way it slipped in. By that point, I was snowy up to my neck. Fun...?! :)

Note

Canadian Running Magazine featured Gary Robbins' successful attempt at the Egg Nog Jog challenge in the CMTR Winter Scavenger Hunt. Given that he came up with this evil challenge idea, I'm kinda glad it kicked his butt, lol!

XC Skiing - Classic (Ungroomed) 1:25:27 [2] 7.81 km (5.5 kph) +71m

Easy ski with Dee, an experienced skate skier who just got classic skis for backcountry trails. It was her first time on ungroomed trails so we stuck to a novice loop. She did well!

XC Skiing - Classic (Ungroomed) 50:00 [2] 4.25 km (5.1 kph) +89m

Chatty ski around nearby fields and forest with our neighbour DR. 'Bent was skijoring with BazingaDog, who was tired after a weekend of playing in fluffy snow. He took his sweet time and made frequent stops to roll in the snow. (The dog, not 'Bent!) It's only a month until his 10th birthday, which is arriving way too soon. AdventureDog was more energetic but is sleeping soundly now.
