Running (Trail) 24:00 [2] 3.2 km (7:30 / km)
slept:6.25 shoes: Salomon Sense Pro - Blue
On a per kilometer basis, this was my worst run ever. It wasn't because of my pre-run worry - the lingering stomach ache from food poisoning. No, AdventureDog went crazy!
We left the house to a chorus of barks, then he shot off after some animal. He returned when I called, then shot off again. He stayed away for almost a minute the last time, rummaging around in the forest. Then he shot back into sight, ran down the side of a steep hill, took a huge leap off an earth embankment about 2 m high, and landed on the far side of the double track, looking as surprised as I was. Too bad he landed in poison ivy. Strike 2.
A few minutes later, he squatted in the middle of the trail instead of his usual forest stop. I had to make my own tools from forest debris to manage that. Strike 3.
After another half kilometer, he was attacked a couple of times by a loose dog who was not just playing. When I tried to grab ADog's collar, it was missing. He must have torn it off in his initial romp, also losing his rabies tag and $40 licence. His collar is customized with name and phone number. So... that was an expensive 60-second dash.
In trying to escape the nasty dog, we ended up blocked from the only path home without major poison ivy. I hadn't brought my phone for such a short run so I couldn't call 'Bent to pick us up at the road. So we bushwhacked through knee-high raspberries. Oh, the other thing I hadn't done was wear real running clothes. I had a cotton tank top with spaghetti straps and shorts with no calf sleeves. The bugs ate me alive when I had to slow down to avoid getting scratched too much by the thorns.
I dressed in full bug gear and spent 90 minutes searching in daylight and later in the dark with a headlamp in hopes that the metal tags on his collar might reflect the light. Nope. Damn.
