Orienteering race 13:51 [3] 2.4 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: Kainuu Integrators

Sprint relay sunday morning. I had the anchor leg. Navigation felt easy again. I made one roughly 20 second mistake, and one 5 second hesitation. Otherwise clean.

Orienteering race 3:03:50 [4] 18.6 km (9:53 / km) +695m 8:20 / km

Long Course at Saylor Park. (Mass Start)
This was a really rewarding day for me. Going in I wasn't sure if I would be able to finish a course this long, especially considering my training. Halfway through the course at control 13 my ankle got a little sore, and I came close to quitting. However, I decided to do one more control, and things felt better, so I pushed through and finished strong.

This was a pretty epic race and lots of good stories to tell. They don't sound as good in writing though. There was mass start confusion, serious swamp bashing, several 2-3 minute errors, multiple position changes, and some serious tests of fortitude. Midrace I was really pleased to be even with Sergey, even though I couldn't quite hold on. The finish was a really tough showdown against Ed White, in which we were both struggling to keep running.

Orienteering 25:00 [0]

Trail-O at Garden of the Gods. Incredible setting.

Orienteering 45:00 [4]
shoes: Inov Terrocs

Orienteering short course. A fun course, but it was really hot and you could feel the elevation when going uphill. I think I was navigating really well, except for one 3 minute mistake were I went down the wrong reentrant.

Orienteering race 2:20:00 [3] 11.0 km (12:44 / km)

Night orienteering.
Navigationally I did pretty poorly and my time was the slowest of people to complete the course. But I considered the course a huge success from the perspective that my leg held up great. Not only did it not hurt during the course, it felt better after the course. (By the end of the orienteering week it is feeling almost perfect).
It was still fun running in the night though. At the end I was completely exhausted.

Orienteering 30:00 [3]

Mountain bike orienteering.
I took out a mountain bike and did half of the MTBO demo course, so I could get some experiance on the map.

Cardiomachines 25:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks (White Yellow Black)

Did 24 minutes on the recumbent bike, got well into the cardio training zone. It really makes the leg feel better. Followed it with some weights.

Let's hope everything holds together tomorrow. The plan is to run conservatively and focus on clean navigation. With inexperiance in the terrain and poor training, I don't really see myself in the hunt to win. But the results earlier suggest simple navigation and clean running - so a clean run could put me close to the top.

Hiking 30:00 [3]
shoes: Brooks (White Yellow Black)

Walking to and from work. I think i'm healed to the point where moderate excercise (followed by rest) is the best help.
