Ran around the base of Bald Hill with Andy, before going to Jessica's going away dinner.

Running 40:00 [2] 5.0 mi (8:00 / mi)
shoes: Orange Sauconys

I decided to check out Beazell Park, which I haven't been to before. It seemed really nice.

Started by trudging up a gravel trail and a logging road through some remarkably open forest. Things got more fun at the top, when I cruised down on some brand new singletrack switchbacks.

It has mixed potential for orienteering. Some really dense forest along the creek, and some more open managed forest. Topography detail also varied, but overall really steep.

My legs were really sore, especially the right calf and hamstring. I think it's from too much driving and hills.

Elliptical Trainer. Watched some airforce one and read some o-maps.
Afterwards I did some arm and shoulder workouts

Running 25:00 [3]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

I headed out to EE Wilson intending to do something on flat ground, but Coffin Butte cast a stench in the air that withered my enthusiam.

When I drove back and stopped at Winco I was feeling more motivated, and the powerline trail called my name. I explored the backtrails on timberhill property. It was great, despite an ache in my right calf from last week's hills and yesterday's drive.

It was really fun with twisty overgrown trails and a huge doug firs canopy. Somebody cut down most of the blackberry thickets on the new forested section of our Chip Ross map. I'm afraid that this is just the first step toward million dollar houses with 5 acre lawns. I saw some beautiful deer, including a pair of 3-point bucks, but it felt sad knowing what's coming. I wonder if they can tell too.

Lately I've been really appreciating the trails, but tonight especially. When I run on the roads it's a pounding slogg and my legs drag. On these backwoods deer trails though I feel fast and energized. Feels like water flowing downstream!

Note

Mapping. Felt like napping.

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Ran chip ross, lower horse, and Dan's with Xan and the track club.
Hills were tough! Right calf slightly sore. Tomorrow is a well earned rest day.

Unspecified (Soccer) 20:00 [2]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Played a bit with George and group. Fun!

Running 1:30:00 [2]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Extendo and the fun trails with Larry, Andy, and George. Had a good time. Start was pretty easy, but got lots of twists and dips on the fun trails, and some pretty tough hills. My ankles where a bit sore toward the end.
Thought about logging part of this run at higher intensity, but you'd have to be quite an attack point geek to do that :-)

Biking 5:00 [4]

Sprinted up witham hill from Co-op on my bike. Just beat Xan who took the car. He made a route choice mistake and went in the wrong driveway :-)

Running 45:00 [3]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Ran down toward walnut park, past covered bridge and back on 36th in evening.

Biking 30:00 [1]

Was getting antsy, so I rode my bike around town and did some shopping.
Bikes make great transportation, but I can't understand how some people workout with them.

Running 25:00 [5]

Went for an evening run before bed. Out bikepath and back on 36th. It was supposed to be a jog but quick legs, a downhill start, and the full moon conspired to speed things up. I like feeling fast.

Sunday Jun 19, 2005 #

Running 30:00 [3] 4.0 mi (7:30 / mi)

Ran the old loop with Xan. Great hill work.

Running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Ran a loop past cattle barns. Explored around frager and woodland meadows more.
Afterwards strecheda and did situps.

Orienteering 10 [1]

Finished the Avery Park meet. Did most of the control placement by bike. It was a fun day, but I'm glad it's done.
Now I can officially start summer training.
I'm thinking lots of long trail runs and mapping.

Thursday Jun 16, 2005 #

Running 45:00 [2]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Did loop on harrison and walunt, with trails through frager and walnut park.
Felt pretty sluggish.

Wednesday Jun 15, 2005 #

Running 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Bald hill and Mulky Creek trails with Andy and Tim.

Tuesday Jun 14, 2005 #

Running 30:00 [1]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Jogged around town. Mostly on roads.

Sunday Jun 12, 2005 #

Unspecified 1:40:00 [1]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Rode my bike around Avery park doing a last check over of controls. Felt much nicer than yesterday's running. Unfortunately the map is showing it's age but I think the courses will be fun.

On another note: Today was the first day in untold years that TWO conflicting orienteering meets were held in Oregon. Which did I go to, you ask? Neither. Sigh.

Saturday Jun 11, 2005 #

Orienteering 1:30:00 [1]

Checking courses for next week's avery park. Just couldn't focus.

Friday Jun 10, 2005 #

Hiking 5:00 [1]

Walked around Frager Open space, which just happens to be about 10 feet from my new bedroom window. Looking forward to the day I get to live on an o-map.

Thursday Jun 9, 2005 #

Hiking 30:00 [1]

When on a very gentle hike around Chip Ross park with Arta.

Running 30:00 [3]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Evening run through park and campus. Legs and stride felt really smooth, especially for first half. Took opportunties to dodge amongst trees and had really fun run. Checked my pace midway and was able to do 6:40 pretty comfortable. Jogged the last half mile home.

Sunday Jun 5, 2005 #

Running 25:00 [1]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Did some light running out to covered bridge and back. I didn't eat nearly enough for lunch and had to much caffine, so I bonked on the way back. Stomach is still upset.

Saturday Jun 4, 2005 #

Running 1:40:00 [2] 9.8 mi (10:12 / mi)
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Gentle run, through Starker out to the end of philomath bike path and then back past bald hill and fairground.
Overall felt good, but differnt parts took turns aching. First my tendons and hamstrings, then my left pattela, then the right. Halfway through though I made a bad route choice and had to jump a ditch and some brambles. From then on the only pain I noticed was from the thorns in my leg.

Wednesday Jun 1, 2005 #

Orienteering 50:00 [4]
shoes: Orange Sauconys

Did the training run that Andy set up in Peavy. Haven't used that map in 4 or 5 years!
Alexander came out this time and looked like he went through a food processer after the blackberry patch. Still, he says he had a great time and wants to come to our next meet!! Thanks Andy!
