hmm... feeling slugish this morning.

TOTNT - Riverdale Rally Run
Very scary ice conditions tonight (picture a solidified lava field landscape, now change that surface to smooth ice, with a dusting of snow). I had already resorted to the fact that I was probably not going to be able to push hard. I mean... blasting, forget about it ...rippin', well maybe just a little.

West Loop: 13:21 (Cm. 13:21) AHR: 150
East Loop: 12:24 (Cm. 25:45) AHR: 153

"TOTNT: Double-Three's"

Solo effort tonight and needed to keep it short-n-sweet as I promised Venus I'd be home by 8:30. Crushed some loops at Riverdale East. Adjusted the regular loop as the blown away snow has revealed what Hansel and I were actually running on last week. Yikes there was an ice river 3m wide running the entire length of our downhill stretch. We must have been incredibly lucky last Tuesday not to have severely wiped out.

Two sets (with 3min float inbetween) of:
3min 'on', 1min 'off' x3

Snowshoeing 3:00:00 [3] **

Out with Hammer and the Griz course testing the upcoming GRR. It's gonna be one sweet race ...I wish I was racing! Conditions will be much faster once the race rolls around, as snowshoes won't be necessary (we hope).

What a difference a week makes though. The snowshoeing was nothing like last weekend's Raid; I found myself breaking through a tough upper crust and then as I would bring my rear leg forward, I'd catch the lip of the crusty snow and subsequently face plant. It got ridiculous towards the end, as my body started to tire and I constantly found myself examining the snow upclose.

Cycling warm up/down 18:00 [2]

I had originally planned to coordinate hooking up with Hansel and Milhouse once they arrived in the "general area" of Milton, but once I saw the road conditions I realized the road bike wasn't such a great idea. So opted for a visit with the folks up at the farmhouse (refuelling from their fridge) and then a shorter session of hill intervals.

As soon as I clipped in and was rolling, I was thinking to myself "...what an awesome feeling being on the road again and not fastened to a trainer!!!"

Cycling hills 36:00 [4]

"Six on Sixth"

Except for the final pitch at the top of the hill, the sixth line hill was clear and dry of snow. However, there was drifting off of the Halton Country Inn driveway, which made for a tricky start to the decent. That combined with the fact that I'd forgotten my second pair of gloves, thus resorting to the damp ones I wore snowshoeing in the morning ...very cold hands on the windy downhills! A circuit came in around 6min, with ~4:10 up and ~ 1:50 return (decended super slow).

Legs felt great today, felt like I was flying up the hill ...so I pushed a Zn5 and ripped-n-blasted the last climb in 3:32. So glad to be out on the road again!

Note
(rest day)

I didn't intend on this being a rest day, but daylight hours were dwindling by the time Venus and I finally were ready to head out to the farmhouse for some skiing. So we opted for a quiet afternoon walking the Brickworks with Superfly George and then lounging by the fire.

Running (Commute) 20:00 [2]

Running 20:00 [2]

Yikes! Very scary run home with black-iced sidewalks the entire way. At one point a young guy decided to try and overtake me ...'feel free buddy' I was thinking as I then crossed the street. Within 4secs of him charging past, I heard a smack, only to turn around and see him sliding off the sidewalk and onto the roadway. ...odd time and place for a nap.
