(rest day)

Drove the Icefield Hwy through Jasper and Banff national parks on the way to Red Deer for Barebones.

Orienteering race 15:00 [5] ***

Barebones (Sprint Fundraise)

Decided to see what little sleep, 8hrs of driving and sustaining on coffee, honey krullers, and boston creem donuts would allow me to do in Salal's park sprint. Screw the warmup/down today... it's a rest day!

Not sure of my time, but was also thrown when reaching control #8 location and not finding the control. At first I thought I made a mistake, but after a little examination of the area determined I was correct and started a search (we'd lost an SI unit a few days prior during a park sprint in a William's Lake park). Sure enough there was the control flag and stand way up in a bush. Assuming that Salal did not position it up there, I pulled it down and... no SI unit. Damn!!! lost another one! A quick search and then I decided to complete the course and come back. Final legs were slow as lost my momentum.

Good news... when I went back with Per we found the SI unit on the tredjectory of the flag thrown into the bushes. I'm amazed that it wasn't smashed like the last one. Why do people feel the need to vandalize O-stands? Guess the combination of orange and white is pretty scarry.

Oh yeah... congrats to Salal on a great course design in this little park. Really enjoyed the course, wish I could have raced it properly.
