Orienteering (middle) 24:41 [2] 2.92 mi (8:27 / mi)
ahr:143 max:159 shoes: Falcons 2018

Not much nice to say about this race.

Long Bus ride and the driver got lost going there. I finally had to go to the front of the bus and give him directions. Yes the guy from Maryland who has never been in the park is giving directions to the california bus driver.
Long walk to the start. Start was totally disorganized. Once started you had to run to the start triangle. I got there but still couldn't find the start triangle on the map. I was running back to the map area so say I was given a bad map when I finally found it. It was hidden under the number #8 on the map. Very bad quality control. It took me 90 seconds to find the start triangle then more time to get back to the actual start.
I took the road to 1 which after the fact was a wise choice but you couldn't tell that from the map. I screwed it up by cutting off the road to soon. But I corrected ok but still missed the control. I found three other controls before decided to bail north to the road and look for #3 on the way. I found 3 and went back to #1 and was still off. Either my compass wasn't pointing correctly or map has problems. After looking in the thickets I finally found the control in a open forested area.
Mapped green was very hit/miss. Some you could go right through, other was very slow but none of the fight was impenetrable.
After #1 I orienteered ok but was slow.
Courses had some problems. Too congested in the 1/2/3/4 area with stuff printed on top of each other. Other courses had the same leg as us but in reverse. Our first control was used by other courses as well.
General impression. Not worth orienteering here ever again. Unfortunately tomorrow was in the same park (and it turns out the same location).
