Note

Nate made it to the Pig and had to run Blue. CMU is not the greatest place to stay fit as a Computer Science major, so his rustiness showed.

Zach won the Eastern Interscholastic Champs - we'll see if he can ride some momentum into the weekend. He has not had much orienteering in the last year due to his illness last spring and XC taking priority in the fall.

Luke was second on his course, behind a big, strong kid. He'll have several tough competitors this weekend.

Orienteering race 1:49:49 [1] 3.51 mi (31:19 / mi) +232m 25:58 / mi

Flying Pig Middle at Bear Something Reservation.

Hip was a big issue on this course, with all of the sharp ups and downs thru reentrants. Also, three scary creek crossings as the water was moving quickly and my left leg doesn't plant well.

A couple of mistakes due to the rust, but most of the wandering was to find friendlier routes.

Map Hike at Sprague Brook. I got exactly one control in 76 minutes. I had to go WAY around to avoid the much higher than usual water. The snow was still quite deep, so when I started to consider a second control, I realized there was no chance before dark and just tried to get up the hill to the main trail, so I could get back to the car.

Biking 23:09 [3] 6.91 mi (3:21 / mi)
ahr:126

P=186, C=70

First recorded time on this course. First third of the course was w/up and fell 25 seconds behind the 200 pacer, but gradually walked him down the rest of the way.

Biking 18:31 [4] 4.53 mi (4:05 / mi)
ahr:134 max:149

P=197, C=65

Another course that I had not done. Now just one remains (all-time - I have to check what's been covered in 2014). Played with the 210 pacer, smoking him on the final climb.

Biking warm up/down 1:30 [2] 0.4 mi (3:45 / mi)

0.1 after first course, 0.3 after 2nd.

Biking 10:00 [3] 2.5 mi (4:00 / mi)
ahr:123 max:155

P=157, C=61

10 minutes of dragons for 43,503 points. Mostly did 2 or 3 different silver coins/dragons, mostly with 4x score, and 2x or 4x speed in between.

54th in the world for this season (OK, the season is only 12 days old, and only 352 people have done this).

Strength (Snow Shoveling) 13:00 [1]

Had grand plans for swimming tonight. We drove straight from the O training camp in Peekskill to Luke's 7pm baseball practice, and probably would have made it, if not for the severe storm near Binghamton - it was our fault, as we were playing a Christmas CD, and the ice/sleet rolled in, causing accidents and slow going. As soon as we turned the CD off, conditions began to improve and it was suddenly clear.

Anyway, after the practice, I noticed there was fresh snow around, but Chris was sure we'd be able to drive into the driveway. Not even close. Zach and I spent 40 minutes opening a path to the garage.

Hiking 54:05 [1] 2.19 mi (24:39 / mi) +17m 24:04 / mi

Walking around the state land near Arrowhead Lakes, in various amounts of snow and mud - the snow in all areas where the trail is not in full sun, and the mud on the new logging road, which includes the southern section of the old RR bed.
