Orienteering race (Trail Challenge) 55:12 [4] 5.73 mi (9:38 / mi) +148m 8:55 / mi

ROC Trail Challenge at Cobbs Hill. Ran with Chelsea most of the way, before she beat me by 15 seconds in the last 2 minutes or less. I screwed up C5 badly - didn't wear my glasses, so misread the trails. That put us well behind Patty and the Tylocks, et al, that we should have beaten.

Barely a w/up.

Biking 21:00 [2] 7.0 mi (3:00 / mi)

Almost blew it off, after lightning cancelled XC Camp tonight, but Chelsea was headed to the Y, so I joined her. Hopped on the bike for a bit, so I could use the headphones to listen in on the Olympics swimming.

Just did level 9 for 5 min,, 10 for 8 and 11 for 8, so HR stayed low, but legs got a workout.

Running 25:11 [2] 3.0 mi (8:24 / mi)

Then they moved to gymnastics, and the treadmill behind me freed up, so I switched to running. Started at 7.0mph for a mile, then 6.6 for 1/4 because my calf was a bit sore, then back to 7.0 for a 1/4, then I saw Chelsea was 7.2, so I moved up to that. Did some pick-ups at 8.0 during the last 1/4.

Orienteering 1:00 [0]

Orienteering Camp at Webster Park. Did a short review of some of the earlier topics, since no one was here last week, then had two groups go out and set 4 controls each, then come back and trade maps. Gil came to help as well and was able to add his perspective for the kids.

Running 28:39 intensity: (21:06 @2) + (7:33 @4) 3.51 mi (8:10 / mi)

Short and mostly easy run with Z after orienteering camp. Didn't run at Webster Park because of the blister on my 4th left toe. Since the last mile was downhill, I told Z we had to keep it under 8 and I went 7:33, while he was 7:20, kicking it in at the end ahead of Chelsea, who joined us on Witherspoon after biking home from Webster Park.

Plenty of excuses for today...

Had a blister still full from yesterday, and we ate an enormous late lunch, which I was still feeling when the Olympics came on TV (five hours later). Nate ran after lunch and suffered the consequences.

Another long day of walking around DC. Started with a White House tour, then the American History museum, then wandered back by the WW II memorial with Chelsea and Nate this time, then MLK, Roosevelt and Jefferson, and back to the Metro.

"Long" run in the heat of the day. From the ball fields not far from our hotel again. Explored some side trails on the way back, then added a bit at the end to get to an hour - wasn't sure if I could make it that far in the heat (~93), but most of the path was nicely shaded.

Lots of walking around DC today (with a high just about 100), so didn't really feel like heading out for a run and delaying dinner.
