Running warm up/down 25:00 [2] 2.94 mi (8:30 / mi)

15 min w/up, included 2min Tempo run.
10 min w/dn

Orienteering race 26:07 [4] 2.6 km (10:03 / km)

Disappointing run in a disappointing Sprint race. The brief meet notes warned that leg covering was recommended, but that's a last resort for a sprint. Was looking forward to running at Franklin Park, even if it was the side of the new XC course (my course was on the golf course, which was not really used much in the early 80s). A pretty awful run overall: I was not able to run hard much because the navigation was a challenge and the thorns were painful (came out pretty bloody).

(rest day)

Decided a day off was in order, with 3 races in the next 3 days.

The kids did 400, 600, 400, 1200T, 400, 600, 400 in the usual spots.

Easy run around Webster Park and Whiting Rd during XC practice, with Coach Klehr. I still believe this is not picking up all the little wiggles in the trails, because I don't think we averaged over 9min pace.

Running 42:00 intensity: (30:00 @3) + (12:00 @5) 5.25 mi (8:00 / mi)

Running around during the last league meet at Black Creek. Basically the same route as last week, but less of a w/up. 3 hard stretches during each race.

The girls race ended up being close against Sutherland after Sarah dropped out at the mile mark, but Alaina completed a 1-2-3 overall sweep, guaranteeing a 4-0 record for the day, and a school record 18 wins for the year!

The boys were well behind Batavia early, as they went out quick and held on for over 2 miles, but they didn't have a 5th man in our top 12 or so, and one-shoe Will, Justin, Tristan and Peter all caught guys for a 28-29 win - meaning all of the top 7 impacted the score (better wording Zach?).

Running 35:33 [3] 4.18 mi (8:30 / mi)

Easy run at Webster Park during practice, with Coach Klehr, then we added Coach Brust.

Note
(rest day)

No time to run before Zach's opening hockey game and then it was home to watch the Bills via TiVo-delay - sad ending - so a day off seemed reasonable.

Running 1:04:00 [2] 8.0 mi (8:00 / mi) +2m 8:00 / mi

Running around during the Bulldog Stampede at Alden. We ended up running 6 races, because we had a bunch of PSAT kids that didn't get there in time for the JV races (and 1 Varsity boy).

McQuaid conditions were rough, but these were much worse. I didn't check out all of the woods, but saw enough to get a feel for it. Plus it rained much of the day, making spectating conditions tough, too.

The juggled lineups made for poorer results than we should have had for the boys. If Will had made the start, we would have been 2nd instead of 5th in the Varsity race and a full complement of JV runners would have placed 3rd instead of 7th. And our JV girls would have been 5th of 9, instead of incomplete.

Val and Amanda went 1-2 again, running safely ahead of EA's second girl (Marta did not run, sadly). And the rest of the girls picked up for Sarah's missing the race, and grabbed 2nd over Starpoint.
