Running long 1:27:42 [2] 10.0 mi (8:46 / mi)
slept:6.25

Zach had a soccer tournament in Brockport, with games at 8 and 11:45, so in between I decided to make my first-ever visit to Northampton Park. Sadly, I didn't plan ahead and print the county park map, so I just explored.

I parked next to the model airplane field and left Z in the car and went. Ran to the east end of the park, taking mostly southern trails (ended up on the road south of the park a couple of times). On the way back, I stayed more on northern trails. There are areas of some very nice woods, but they are few, far between and fairly featureless.

Very enjoyable run. I think many of the trails don't get a whole lot of use. At one point I smelled raspberries before I spotted them - made for a nice mid-run snack!

Swimming 29:30 [2] 0.85 mi (34:42 / mi)
slept:4.0

4:07/8:25
1:32,30,35,34,37
3:36,32

Just coasted thru the swim. Still have a nasty cough and I'm running Dirt Cheap tonight.

Lack of sleep was due to the Harry Potter premier at 12:01am.

Running race 35:41 [4] 4.25 mi (8:24 / mi)

DIrt Cheap Trail Series - 4th monthly race - at Mendon Ponds

Plenty of excuses: late night, sick, BFLO O tomorrow, but I was slow. It was a minute slower than April (which was run in the other direction), even though I took it easy then.

At least it was fun. They used a "time trial" start, 5 second intervals, so I got to pass people pretty regularly (and 4-5 passed me). I started 30 seconds behind Tom Lamme and took advantage of the downhills and poor footing early to catch him (while Kenny caught me from 60 seconds back in about 6.5 minutes). He pulled away from me a few times in the easy sections, but I kept catching back up. He finally pulled away by about 10 seconds when I had no desire to finish hard before doing two O races tomorrow.

After about 1/3 of the race, Patty was only about 15 seconds back, making me a little nervous, so I stopped looking back. Zach had a GREAT run, finishing just 42 seconds behind me.

Running warm up/down 6:00 [2] 0.67 mi (9:00 / mi)

Short w/up, since it was fairly warm.
w/dn was walking back the trail to cheer for Zach, Walt and Chelsea.

Running 36:45 [2] 4.32 mi (8:30 / mi)

First day of XC Camp!

A decent turnout, but this year we still don't have quite as many registered as Thomas (but it's no longer 2:1 in their favor). With nate in Germany (en route to Sweden), Nico working, Geoff unavailable and Ethan recovering from the accident (and out for the season), our top end was a little depleted, but Elliot was a surprise and Trevor was, too, for most of the run (his advice to others: don't eat mid/late-afternoon on XC camp days).

I just ran easy thru the park and saw the big boys doing their tempo effort a few times.

Running 1:40 [4] 0.28 mi (6:00 / mi)

5 strides

Stretching 3:00 [1]

Too much talking, not enough stretching.

E-C-P

It's been a long time since I did this old standard. I wanted a bit of a workout without killing myself before the doubleheader coming up (Dirt Cheap on Wednesday, BFLO Sprint/Score-O on Thursday), so I decided on a 2-mile tempo effort in the middle of this run. Tempo only means 7:00 or lower these days. I was out a little quick (5:57 is about 6:37 pace), but I didn't completely die (6:16 is about 6:57 pace) and managed 13:34 for the deuce.

Golfing 5:00 [1]
slept:8.5 (rest day)

50 minutes on the range. Hit about 110 balls plus at least 30 chips.

Then I went to the Y to swim, only to discover it closed - I guess their schedule on the web is out of date. That made for an unintentional rest day, since I need a day off from running and I'm afraid to get on a bike today.
