Just when I thought the weekend couldn't possibly get any worse, boom. I had one control where I did not check the code, as I was busy remembering to punch while I was drinking water. It was the wrong control. Ironically, this is also the control where Zach MSP'd. He thought he punched before he drank (that was his plan coming into the control), but the punch was not recorded on his stick.

I still have a very tough time differentiating the rocks and stuff that I see in the terrain, with the rocks and stuff on the map.

I took the safe route around to C1 and thought I was off to a good start. But I had a couple of small misses and Ethan had caught me be C4, I think. I went the long way to C5 and almost caught back up to Ethan, who had gone straight with a big lead from the gate. As it turns out, I missed C6 to the left and saw the water and did my MSP. I had a heck of a time with C7 (because I wasn't coming from C6) and had to relocate off the tower up top - I could not figure out how my bearing had been off by 120m on that short leg. Now I know.

I was already running out of gas, thanks to the heat and climb, when I got to C13, and flipped over the map to reveal the shockingly long leg to C14. After some initial playing around in the brambles to discover, and recover from the uncrossable fence, I did what I could to keep moving. I got a second wind on the way to C15, but that just caused me to lose track of the distance and overrun C15 to the next big boulder which did not have a control, but I got the bright idea that I might be short, so i went to the next big boulder and there was a control, but it was C16. Ouch, back up the hill. Then slow but steady on the short finishing loop.

Running warm up/down 5:00 [2] 0.57 mi (8:45 / mi)

Minimal w/up as I decided to purchase some O-shoes shortly before the race, since the running shoe thing hadn't worked so well yesterday.
